When I thought it was all over, I should’ve known that there is always an unfinished business and so my journey continues with Home Office.
So got my ILR approved on 14th Feb and submitted my naturalisation (spouse of British Citizen) on 1st March to be approved on 2nd May and I thought it was end of a very long and expensive journey (fiance+2 leave to remain+ ILR+ Naturalisation) and when council set the date of my ceremony for 18th May me & my partner were over the moon as like many of you here it has been hard and a lot of blood and tears have gone over last 6 years for me to be here.
So turned up at Poole Registry office all excited with partner and a friend for the ceremony, checked in and took seat and then ceremony was done, and little did I know it was going to end up in limbo and something totally unexpected.
Oddly Home Office dated the certificate which categorised me as a minor even though date of birth and every other information on the certificate was correct. I was so disappointed as I have been in their system for 10 years and this was the least expected reason.
So, I did get to take photos of handing over the certificate to me however they could not release it. The only thing I got to keep is the letter signed by Home Secretary and some other info leaflet.
Registrar has sent information to CCST team, and I have sent CCST an email as well, as there is no mention of correction timeline anywhere so don’t know what will happen and if I must redo my ceremony or they will backdate it so definitely in an unchartered territory but hope this gets resolved soon. Had to cancel upcoming holidays out of the country as well which was disappointing.
The only response I got from CCST as of now is that they have asked council to return the certificate to be amended but no idea how I will get notified.
I wanted to share this on forum to make people aware of such mistakes from Home Office. I will update the forum when I get update and I hope this gets resolved as soon as possible.
Note: Certificate are issued undated, and registrar will hand write it to match ceremony date. For minor CCST print the date which is same as approval date(the certificate in which they inadvertently categorised me as minor was dated 22-Apr-2022) and when the accompanying adult does their ceremony, they hand over minor’s certificate to them.
