When I thought it was all over, I should’ve known that there is always an unfinished business and so my journey continues with Home Office.

So got my ILR approved on 14th Feb and submitted my naturalisation (spouse of British Citizen) on 1st March to be approved on 2nd May and I thought it was end of a very long and expensive journey (fiance+2 leave to remain+ ILR+ Naturalisation) and when council set the date of my ceremony for 18th May me & my partner were over the moon as like many of you here it has been hard and a lot of blood and tears have gone over last 6 years for me to be here.
So turned up at Poole Registry office all excited with partner and a friend for the ceremony, checked in and took seat and then ceremony was done, and little did I know it was going to end up in limbo and something totally unexpected.

Oddly Home Office dated the certificate which categorised me as a minor even though date of birth and every other information on the certificate was correct. I was so disappointed as I have been in their system for 10 years and this was the least expected reason.

So, I did get to take photos of handing over the certificate to me however they could not release it. The only thing I got to keep is the letter signed by Home Secretary and some other info leaflet.

Registrar has sent information to CCST team, and I have sent CCST an email as well, as there is no mention of correction timeline anywhere so don’t know what will happen and if I must redo my ceremony or they will backdate it so definitely in an unchartered territory but hope this gets resolved soon. Had to cancel upcoming holidays out of the country as well which was disappointing.

The only response I got from CCST as of now is that they have asked council to return the certificate to be amended but no idea how I will get notified.

I wanted to share this on forum to make people aware of such mistakes from Home Office. I will update the forum when I get update and I hope this gets resolved as soon as possible.

Note: Certificate are issued undated, and registrar will hand write it to match ceremony date. For minor CCST print the date which is same as approval date(the certificate in which they inadvertently categorised me as minor was dated 22-Apr-2022) and when the accompanying adult does their ceremony, they hand over minor’s certificate to them.

Below is my passport timeline post naturalisation. It was quite a journey I would say. My dad suffered stroke in June and I had opened numerous complaints and escalation but I wouldnt say it changed anything. Also it turned out that CCST team didn't update my naturalsaition date on CID system after corrected certificate was issued which delayed my passport application and I have asked my MP to raise this with PHSO so that nobody else has to go through same ordeal. I did get call from passport examiner this morning to say that my checks are completed and passport is ready to be issued and asked if I wanted to collect it or they can post and I chose to get it posted as it is at HMPO Liverpool which is quite far so they will send my passport and all supporting documents via Royal Mail to me and is due to be delivered tomorrow. HMPO Staff were absolutely lovely and they called me again to give me the tracking number.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father, Toby. I agree, the HMPO staff were really helpful and friendly when I had to call them (there was an issue with one of my referees) which was quite a stark contrast having spent 6 years dealing with UKVI who have literally no customer service.

I hope your passport arrives to you soon.

Thank you @clever-octopus for kind words and I totally agree that UKVI need to up their game when it comes to customer service as they are a nightmare to deal with. It was unacceptable that they made that mistake with my naturalisation application to begin with but then dragging on correction for 7 weeks when there was a medical emergency which they didnt even finish properly (aka updating CID) was another level. I was told that if the CID was updated then digital application go through all automated check and someone had to just review and approve however as the CID wasnt updated they have to do manual checks, wait for response on email and then approve which obviously add days.

My main concern was that I am not allowed dual nationality(Indian passport) and UK passport are visa nationals (India suspended eVisa for UK) and in order to avail any consula service from India I need to surrender my passport first wait for that to be done and then apply for a sticker visa which is a 2 step process so I just cant just fly off as in when I want.

I genuinely home Home Office sort this issue and who knows how many others would be going through same.

I am given a RM tracking number so will be refreshing the page as often as I could :) and I hope it arrive tomorrow before noon(that is normally when we get the post)

Hello,
Apologies for posting here on this thread but I’ve got a query relating to English language requirements. I applied for Naturalisation and have a certificate from my time when I applied for ILR. I read on the guidance that the certificate is valid for only 2 years and also that if I have successfully got ILR I don’t need to take a test for English language again. Question is: can I apply for naturalisation with expired English language test certificate? I over by 15 days, such a shame as couldn’t apply for naturalisation due to various reasons ( child birth), covid etc

If your qualification has run out

Some recognised test qualifications only last for 2 years. You can still use a B1 level qualification that you took more than 2 years ago in 2 situations.

Applying for citizenship

You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if you’re applying for citizenship and it was accepted when you settled in the UK.

It does not matter if the B1 level test you took is not on the current list of recognised tests. You do not need to take another test.
