I have applied for Indian passport renewal at VFS global Sydney on 03.10.2024. I could see my application hasnt moved yet and when checked for status, its still in payment received and its with CGI for further processing. Could see even a File number isnt created yet. I need to travel India by last week of December. Anyone come across the delay? any ideas to fast track the process.

Okay. I have applied on 6th Sept. They never pick up their phone.
Mate have you booked appointment with CGL or walk through?
no appointment, walk in if your application pending for more than 8 weeks
They never pick phone or respond to email. It's better to visit them directly. No need of prior appointmen.

I just want to share my experience here, that might help
Applied on - 25/09 @ VFS
CGI acknowledged on 27/09
Waited 8 weeks
Visited CGI Sydney on 27/11 and explained urgency.
The guy there said "ok, it's been 8 weeks, I will push the application ".
P.S. - The guy was SURE that I will get it in a week's time.
Got notification about police check on 29/11
Got the police check done on 30/11.
Got the passport on 04/12.
If you get CGI to push your application, it's a matter of weeks (max 10 days) to get it.
Applied on - 25/09 @ VFS

this is such a positive news . But it’s so tricky if you don’t reside in sydney. Does your Indian passport hold aus address or Indian address ? Sorry I am in cross roads thats why checking ? I applied in 1st Oct .

CGI won't really check who's walking in for whose application. As long as the person going there gives application details(name+arn+pp#+date applied)... So you might ask someone to do a favour.
My pp still has Indian address - not sure if having Aus address makes any difference.
When I spoke to the guy, he said they were processing applications submitted in last week of sept. I am sure they either picked 01/10 or close to it.

Do you think if they can push my application if it is in 7th week of processing. I have to travel to Indian on 02nd Jan and tickets are already booked.

Nothing works in Australia after 15th December as everyone gets into holiday season
You can visit the CGI and explain your issue and try
Have a plan B as you will need it in all likelihood

Hi Guys, I applied for renewal of my Indian passport on 18th Oct and CGI confirmation on 21st October. Any idea when should I be expecting my passport back? I have to travel back to Indian in Jan 2025. Any help will be appreciated. I am trying call CGI but can't get hold of anyone.

I am in the same boat applied in Oct and have to travel in Jan and still no update. I have applied in Sydney hopefully they have fast process in Adelaide. yeah, they never pick up the phone if by any chance they pick up, they are in so hurry and hang up the phone in the middle while you are talking.
