I am in the same boat applied in Oct and have to travel in Jan and still no update. I have applied in Sydney hopefully they have fast process in Adelaide. yeah, they never pick up the phone if by any chance they pick up, they are in so hurry and hang up the phone in the middle while you are talking.

Adelaide applications are sent to CGI Sydney as well. I am concerned if I will get my passport before my travel date, or should I withdraw my application?

okkk I didnt know that. I think once its lodged you cant withdraw it. but I really dont know.

I just want to share my experience here, that might help
Applied on - 25/09 @ VFS
CGI acknowledged on 27/09
Waited 8 weeks
Visited CGI Sydney on 27/11 and explained urgency.
The guy there said "ok, it's been 8 weeks, I will push the application ".
P.S. - The guy was SURE that I will get it in a week's time.
Got notification about police check on 29/11
Got the police check done on 30/11.
Got the passport on 04/12.

If you get CGI to push your application, it's a matter of weeks (max 10 days) to get it.

okkk I didnt know that. I think once its lodged you cant withdraw it. but I really dont know.

You can withdraw the application by signing a form and they will give back your passport immediately .

I could see my application hasnt moved yet and when checked for status, its still in payment received and its with CGI for further processing. Could see even a File number isnt created yet. I need to travel India by last week of December. Anyone come across the delay? any ideas to fast track the process.

No status still showing under processing. I didnt get one thing why would we have to wait for these things so long??? If Melbourne office can process applications on time then why not Sydney??

I am sure. I think you can withdraw your application and apply for renewal when you go to India, or you can try visiting CGI Sydney if you live in Sydney. I live in Adelaide but my application under CGI Sydney.

I live in Albury NSW which is almost 6 hrs from Sydney I am not too sure if we can withdraw the application and for that I have to visit CGI which is not feasible for me.
