It is taking more than 3 months to get Indian passport renewed. I applied on 4 th September & it is still showing " under review at Indian consulate" today on 11th November.

Same issue with me. I applied on 30.08.2024 and it still shows "under review at Indian consulate" as of today. Contacted VFS support multiple times but received no reason for delay.

 

thanks for the responses, everyone, not sure if the delay is happening only for Sydney applications. When i checked with VFS Global in Person, was told minimum of 12 weeks... very frustrating. I have contact CGI as well, no response either from them as well..

 

Same with me too. shall we all together sign and forward a petition to commissioner at CGI or to MEA. Otherwise, we have to change our december travel plans.

 

Wet sorry state of affairs
Maybe if everyone tweets tagging the Minister MEA, things may get back on rails

Same with me I have also applied in OCT and showing the same status. I am also travelling on 2nd jan but no hope I think I have to postpone my ticket. I dont think so Im going to get it on time. I guess Jayashanker sir have to do to something about it.

 

I have applied 28 august 2024 till now no response i do not what is happing so frustrated with the service .

 

If your application is pending for more than 8 weeks and you have valid reason/proof to get it expedited, you can visit the sydney office and talk to them. Please carry ARN for your applications and the date of submission for processing.
You can use the lift to up to the office after around 9.10AM and hope tomeet someone there at around 9.15.

I paid a visit to CGI office yesterday.My application was not even picked. After my request at the counter , they have initiated.

 

Did they mention how much backlog they have?
When did you apply for the renewal?

 

I applied on 3rd sep. They are only responding to people who have completed more than 8 weeks.

 

Okay. I have applied on 6th Sept. They never pick up their phone.

 

They never pick phone or respond to email. It's better to visit them directly. No need of prior appointmen.

CGI acknowledged on 27/09
Waited 8 weeks
Visited CGI Sydney on 27/11 and explained urgency.
The guy there said "ok, it's been 8 weeks, I will push the application ".
P.S. - The guy was SURE that I will get it in a week's time.
Got notification about police check on 29/11
Got the police check done on 30/11.
Got the passport on 04/12.

If you get CGI to push your application, it's a matter of weeks (max 10 days) to get it.

this is such a positive news . But it’s so tricky if you don’t reside in sydney. Does your Indian passport hold aus address or Indian address ? Sorry I am in cross roads thats why checking ? I applied in 1st Oct .

 

CGI won't really check who's walking in for whose application. As long as the person going there gives application details(name+arn+pp#+date applied)... So you might ask someone to do a favour.

My pp still has Indian address - not sure if having Aus address makes any difference.

When I spoke to the guy, he said they were processing applications submitted in last week of sept. I am sure they either picked 01/10 or close to it.

Hi Guys, I applied for renewal of my Indian passport on 18th Oct and CGI confirmation on 21st October. Any idea when should I be expecting my passport back? I have to travel back to Indian in Jan 2025. Any help will be appreciated. I am trying call CGI but can't get hold of anyone.

Hello how did you explain the urgency sir? Were you able to get an appointment? They would not even let us in if its passport relayed.

 

Consulate general india sydney office no need appointment walk in i went there last week next day they send police enquiry and yesterday my passport enquiry done.

No status still showing under processing. I didnt get one thing why would we have to wait for these things so long??? If Melbourne office can process applications on time then why not Sydney??

 

I live in Albury NSW which is almost 6 hrs from Sydney I am not too sure if we can withdraw the application and for that I have to visit CGI which is not feasible for me.
