Thought y'all would find this interesting. Trump revealed today he'd get Mexico to pay for the wall by withholding remittances to Mexico. There's an aricle on Google News about it.

That is a dumb plan.

I thought he would do it by additional taxing of exports on all goods. America moves auto manufacturers and other businesses here for the cheap labor, increase the tax on the vehicles, food and other things built in Mexico then exported into the U.S. by 5% and he would have his wall.

and Dady´s connections and money helped him too.

That makes me feel really secure as I am not a US citizen and have my money there..hope they do not look at it as remittance one day..Being a Mexican citizen is not going to help either.. what a bunch of BS.

.Big shot..pick on the poor and helpless...how sad..

And there doesn't seem to be a distinction between legal and illegal.

I AM a US citizen and I worry about not being able to move monies freely out of the US and into Mexico some day. I know some folks here conduct their banking just-in-time. But, while all our retirement funds still sit in the US - we might have enough pesos in Mexico that, if we don't have some catastrophic event - we could live on the rest of our lives. (and besides, it is now making 4.11 % interest - before Mexican AND US taxes).

I think there is still a surprise or two in the US election process this year.

yes you are right, that is the next step no difference between legal and illegal..remember the German and Italian Jews would did not flee when the Nazis took over because they were citizens, their families had served in the army and so on.. when ugliness rears its ugly head it gets very scary for everyone.. He is the worst demagogue but the idea that some people are falling for his BS and nastiness is scary and sad.
I bought 2 houses here for that exact reason, I can rent one or sell it and have an income out of the reach of the US, looks like it was a good idea..
I remember years ago having a conversation with a famous gay chef from San Francisco, I was with my assistant , a Chinese American and Jeremiah told us, the 3 of us are minorities and when things go bad we are next, I never forgot that and what he said is one of the reasons I always try to have an out from any country I live in.

The guy is a clown, a wealthy one, and all that electoral deal is a pantomime, they will make Mrs Clinton to win by making the people vote for her opposed to the crazy rich clown.
Are those really the best candidates a big Country can have????

Just like in Mexico, we have to vote for the least idiotic candidate, different pantomime, but very much alike

Since you bring it up :) I'm hoping for a contested convention and perhaps Paul Ryan comes out on top.

If I did it correctly I should have attached the FPCA form you would need to request an absentee ballot. Looks like it is generic (not state specific). Once completed you can fax it to your supervisor of elections. You can also request that they email you the ballot - but once again you need to return the ballot via fax.

As a U.S. citizen living in Mexico, but one whose circle of family, friends and aquaintances is mostly Mexican, I find it really bothersome when the conversation veers towards Trump, particularly with the ignoranti who at first sight might assume I'm a Trumpster. Over and over: No I don't like him, won't vote for him, and thank the stars that he's got virtually no chance of winning. Now just how the U.S. political system could even produce a such candidate who's still dominating the news this late in the game....that's a tough one to answer.

Hitler and many others stood very little chances of making it big..history is funny that way, the top Republican candidates are pretty scary, you never know what can come down the piple and the choices in my opinion for such a large country are pretty poor on all sides.

#13 ·
I agree. I am very uncomfortable just dismissing Trump with the idea that he cannot win. A lot of people like to be told that there are simple black and white solutions to complex problems. In fact they seem to be happy if they just hear someone say he has a simple solution without even telling them what it is most of the time. The US political scene is a very scary place right now.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have the lowest favorability ratings of any two US presidential candidates since such polling began. And they are currently the front runners in their respective parties. Clearly, the US is now, and actually has for some time been, an oligarchy where money and monied interests control the political process.

Need more proof? Here are links to a study conducted in 2014 by Princeton and Northwestern university. Here is a brief synopsis:
Major Study Finds The US Is An Oligarchy - Business Insider

And here is a PDF of the study's published findings:
https://www.google.com.mx/url?sa=t&...tics.doc.pdf&usg=AFQjCNGify0Yjpt5exJMmcRcfJJKZoDoMQ&sig2=9WPB_N6z-pHPUqsByZtukQ

If you are a US citizen and you choose to vote in this election, I truly hope you will take a look at this study and NOT vote for Trump or Clinton. Either one is just more of the same; oligarchy where rich individuals and large corporations control politics and the rest of us are stuck with the tab.

For starters, Trump has not won. As far as how could the U.S. produce such a candidate, look at the competition and the current administration.

All of that aside, I doubt anything will happen as far as Americans being able to move money from NOB to Mexico. I don't doubt that some kind of IRS maneuver could stop personal transfers unless tax withholding records were proven, maybe this is what he is thinking, tax the illegals income as it leaves.

Already we have had a taste of that. For 29 years we had brokerage accounts at a large Boston based firm (think green). When we bought our Mexican house a few years back we paid cash and I purchased the pesos in Boston and wired them to our Mexican account. I don't recall exactly - but perhaps over 4-6 months I made 4 or so wire transfers. Near the end they were really giving me a hard time. "For what purpose are you using these funds". Finally they told me the pesos really needed to stay in my brokerage account and serve as an investment - subject to commissions on the buy/sell. I closed all but one account and moved everything to Schwab - who seem to have a much friendlier way of dealing with their US customers living in Mexico.

btw - I tracked down Trump's recent memo regarding remittances. Here's the link.

For me - what is a lot scarier then Trump - are the Trump supporters. They are so violent - like storm troopers. I know he incites them but still. What happens with those folks when Trump is shoved out.

Tell me about the Bible belt..I have a white marriage certificate from 1970 when it was illegal to marry a black person.. I learned a few things when I lived down there including the fact that there is no such thing as a totally non religious marriage contract even when it comes straight out of a courthouse..

Yes Hitler came in the depression time as the saviour and all the nuts are going on and on how bad the economy is now believing the world is coming to an end and trying to scare people about immigrants, Moslems and whatever they can come up with.

Hitler was promising better times and did some good things for Germany until he went down the tubes.
He was a megalomaniac racist and scapedgoated the Jews , tried to wipe them out along with gypsies , Poles and ethnic grous he considered inferior. (Sounds familiar)

He was very charismatic and the radio was the way people communicated then and they were all glued to the radio, the shorts films of propaganda in the movie theatres and the papers. Hitler had a great sense of the melodramiatic and so does Trump-

Mein Kampf was given to every young couple who got married, please do not tell me people did not know what was going on because there was less communication means..
Hitler was a great communicator (sounds familiar)

In Europe we all chose to forget and forgive and blame Nazism versus blaming the German people as there is nowhere to go with this one but I do not think people should forget history, and saying that people were ill informed is just an excuse not the truth.

When you hear many people know they are just as poorly informed as they buy the propaganda too..nothing has changed and many people have not learned one thing pretty sad.

After "Make America Great Again," it is perhaps the most common refrain of the Donald Trump campaign.

"I will build a wall!"

And, every time, it's followed by an ironclad guarantee from the candidate:

"And I will make Mexico pay for it."

When asked how, Trump has always been short on details. He cites leverage the U.S. has over Mexico, which needs access to the U.S. market. He has also suggested steep tariffs on Mexican-made goods.

But now comes a bit more detail — in a memo just over a page long — first reported by the Washington Post and now posted on the official Trump campaign website.

It's still all about leverage.

The memo lays out a three-day plan, using provisions of the Patriot Act, that Trump says will "compel Mexico to pay for the wall."

The basic argument is this: Billions of dollars in cash are transferred by individuals from the U.S. to Mexico every year. To keep that from coming to a halt, Mexico must make a one-time payment to the United States of $5 billion to $10 billion. That amount would cover the cost of building a wall that Trump has estimated would carry a price tag of about $8 billion. (Incidentally, that figure that is widely criticized as being far too low.)

Day 1: The Trump administration would draw up a "proposed rule" stating that no one be allowed to wire money outside the U.S. "unless the alien first provides a document establishing his lawful presence in the United States."

Day 2: Here the memo predicts that "Mexico will immediately protest." It goes on: "They receive approximately $24 billion a year in remittances from Mexican nationals working in the United States." A 2013 Pew Research study, based on World Bank data, put remittances from the U.S. to Mexico at nearly $23 billion, so that's close to the amount Trump's memo cites, but the campaign offers no evidence to support a claim that "The majority of that amount comes from illegal aliens." (Remittances to Mexico were up almost 14 percent in February, NPR's Carrie Kahn reports from Mexico City, per BBVA Research.)

Day 3: Tell Mexico that if it agrees to come up with the cash to pay for the wall, then the "proposed rule" will never go into effect.

Further, Trump says the U.S. can use tariffs and strict enforcement of existing trade rules. The memo maintains that any price increases Americans see as a result of such policies would be "more than offset by the economic and income gains of increased production in the United States." In addition to that, there would be the cancellation of visas for Mexican citizens coming into the U.S., including business and tourist visas.

In short, pay up or risk an all-out trade war with the U.S., writing new punitive measures that Trump says Mexico couldn't bear.

A Jimmy Carter quote: " After 3 months in office I realized how little power I actually had."

Remember Bill Clinton picked up a lot of votes saying he was going to have "Universal Health Care" when elected. 3 months after he took office not one word from him about it anymore.

Trump can say whatever he wants now but when bills, laws, etc. are debated and passed or rejected in the senate and house then people will see if he can do anything he says he can do. Not being a seasoned politican has him "High in the clouds." If any average people want to believe anything you just wrote it will take a miracle to pass any of that nonsense in reality. IMO

One thing I firmly believe, the US will elect a new President from the choices offered them, under the current rules of selection, that will be the choice of the people who vote. Unless, something strange happens, and there is not a clear winner. Then, under the current rules, a President will be selected that may not be the selection of the majority of Americans. The US will have a new President.

Trump does not "scare me", as I have never felt that he honestly is anti-women, nor a "dark" racist, nor believes much of what he says. He says things that he knows Many people want to hear, and repeats those that seem to attract support. He wants to win, as he has a reputation as a winner, to defend. He does have knowledge of business and that is a plus for him. He is "tough acting" because he is aware that MANY fault our current President for not standing up for our Country. Trump is observant.

Clinton is a "gutter" fighter, and has a long history of not telling things "straight up". But, that does not seem to matter to those who support her, nor her tremendous, questionable wealth. Many support her simply because she would be the first woman President. My response to that is the old saying " be careful what you wish for, you may get it." Sometimes, she states she will be Obama II; recently, she seems to feel that there is shame in these last 8 years. I don't know how much longer she can hold the Black vote, as surely they can see that they are being used so more is being done for the Latinos than the Blacks.

Cruz, is growing stronger as time passes. He is a BIG threat to the GOP, as he truly believes what he says, and is by far the most intelligent person in the race. His organization compares very favorably to Obama's, and they love him. Cruz is a debater, and Clinton really fears having to go up against him. She will not win those battles, but she may have enough blind support that it does not make a difference.

Bernie? He is Bernie, and has caused Clinton some problems. Don't think that the Cruz people are not on top of that.

My quick take. No endorsement here. :D

Hillary’s lead position in her own party & popularity among the general electorate is hardly grounded upon "blind support." Your assessment & personal comments regarding the individual candidates simply isn’t shared by all. Many voters think the GOP is a group of latent racists and Cruz and Trump are bigoted self-serving chumps.

I surmise more of we the people support the progressive agendas of both Sanders and Clinton than the intolerant dictatorial thinking of the GOP alternatives.

Trump cannot do anything
That guy is a ridiculous person, a comedian
And anybody who follows him have manure instead of a brain
Not my humble opinion, just facts

Here is an interesting (and seems fair) article :
Is Donald Trump self-funding his campaign? Sort of | PolitiFact

....
"The vast majority of Trump’s contributions to his own campaign — about $12.6 million — are loans rather than donations. This means he could expect to eventually recoup these funds."
....
"of the approximately $12 million Trump’s campaign spent in 2015, about $2.7 million went toward reimbursing Trump-affiliated companies for services provided to the campaign, such as traveling in his own plane and helicopter"

You tend to acquire perspective on your homeland when you haven't been there for a long time: in my case, 12 years with a 4 day return for a family funeral.

At this distance, I see big time rage expressed, dead dreams and extreme agendas.

Politics has always been a nasty game, but this time around, it's gross. Mud wrestling has more dignity.
I see more divisiveness between the races than back when integrated schools were enforced and marches were common.
Religion is another one: more radical and control freaking than ever.

Is there hope? Many philosophers have suggested that the rot which destroys empires starts within.
Seems to be the case here.

And then there is the clash with the police - kind of reminds me a little of the Vietnam anti-war sentiment.

Hope ? I think the last unifying moment in the US was just after 9/11. Sadly it will probably take a similar event to unite folks in the US again.

I remember attending a convention where the woman speaker said something like "when everybody is somebody, nobody is anybody." People and organizations that have some type of power over others will fight losing that power, even creating problems and dissent that do not exist, just to hold on to power. That is not a racial issue.

You cannot legislate people: how they are created, their desire, their ability, their aptitude, their "want to". So, no matter what opportunities are available, some are not interested. Many would rather just put their hand out. Many want to excel as much as they can. People will always be poor, because some choose that and enjoy wallering in it (one of my 6 sister-in-laws and her husband). People are not created equal in their abilities, nor their desires. We can not legislate that. We cannot continue to cry about the past, we must move forward. But, too many want us to continue to waller in the past, and that prevents us from moving ahead.

We are apparently on different pages...

So you seem to be a Trump guy. I'm going to make a comment - and NOT back it up with a link for the moment - if you will let me. Trump very recently said basically the rest of the world is not pulling its weight. Countries like Japan and South Korea should be paying the US for the luxury of having US forces located there. Can you imagine for a moment what the attitude would be - in the US - if Japan and South Korea were to say to the US - ya know what - we really appreciate all your help over the years but we are going to take care of ourselves for now on ?

The US needs to be the world's bully/policeman - if not - they lose their influence. But in doing so - the US is upsetting a lot of folk.

Do you know the Trump interview which I am referring to ? Am I putting words in his mouth ?

I guess we are, Chuck. Evidently, you didn't read very carefully where I said that I don't have a dog in this fight, yet. Nor, am I leaning toward any. People who don't seem to be able to handle people being honest with their opinions, without choosing a side, seem to put those people in a group opposed to their ideas, so they can respond to them. They just can't accept people as being maybe different from them, without being their enemy. What a shame we have to classify people as them or us, no? Chuck, I will take responsibility for what I write, but I will not take responsibility for what you do not understand, ok? :D
