Recent processing time for carta d’identita?

Does anyone have a recent experience receiving the carta d’identita by mail?

My wife has been waiting a month for her CIE to arrive in Spain. Mine only took about 10 days back in May, though between my application and hers there was a serious network failure at the Ministero dell’Interno that lasted a few weeks.

Also, does anyone know who to contact if it doesn’t arrive? The request was through a consulate, but I believe they mainly process it and pass it along.

That's a new one on me. In the past they didn't offer that.

Usually ID cards are done in your town of residence. If it's an electronic card and not the old fashion paper one the delays are pretty bad in some cities.

It’s something that’s possible at Italian consulates in the EU. So long as your AIRE is totally finished (comune has told consulate it’s done on their end), the consulate will process the application, but it’s produced and mailed by the ministry and has to be delivered and signed for through an official mail service.

Maybe my fast turnaround was an exception.

Thank you.
