Greetings All,

My wife and I plan to relocate to Cyprus early 2024 so we will be looking for a property to rent long term (10 weeks) prior to buying!

Before that we are planning a short visit later this year just to have a look around. We have holidayed on the island a couple of times and I lived in Limassol as a boy in the early 60s. (Army Brat)

Looking foreward to accessing as much info as possible through the forum.

Kind Regards,

Iain&Jan

Welcome to the Forum! There’s been many changes here since Brexit (90 day limit in any 180 day period; tighter requirements for non-EU passport holders to stay beyond 90 days etc). I hope all goes well for you, and wish you both luck.

To get permanent residency you will have to meet some very strict criteria since the dreaded B word. Have you researched the requirements? There is a minimum income needed as well as private health insurance until you qualify for the healthcare system. I am out of touch with the new regs so can't give you figures but you can look them up.

You really have 2 routes since brexit.

1. Cyprus temporary residence permit (also known as Pink Slip)
  • This is valid for one year and can be renewed
  • Can live in Cyprus as a visitor but WITHOUT the right to work
  • Cannot stay out of Cyprus for more than three months continuously
  • In order to be eligible for this type of permit, you need to show:
    • Sufficient income from abroad to cover living expenses while in Cyprus (€ 24,000 for a single applicant plus extra 20% for the spouse and 15% for each child)
    • either rented or bought a house or apartment
    • Private health insurance
  • After continually living in Cyprus for 5 Years, you may be eligible to apply for "long term" residency

2. Cyprus permanent residency
  • Must invest a minimum of €300,000 in real estate or share capital of company registered in Cyprus
  • Are not eligible to work in Cyprus UNLESS appointed as Director in company in which you have invested at least €300,000 in share Capital
  • The residency permit is permanent and does not need to be renewed
  • Must show an income from outside Cyprus of at least €30,000 plus €5000 for spouse and each child
  • Eligible for free healthcare
  • After continually living in Cyprus for 5 Years, you may be eligible to apply for citizenship
I hope this helpful, let me know if i can help any further

Sorry to jump on the post a little but we will be in a very similar position, not wanting to work and independent means. Does anyone know how you 'prove' income especially things like interest and stocks and shares? Can anyone advise of someone who could confirm for us we were definitely eligible before making the move as obviously don't want to move out and then find we won't fit the criteria? I have found some Cypriot companies that will do the paperwork for us but want large amounts of money up front when we might not even be eligible Thank you

Hi, We will be on the same journey, hopefully in the next 12-18 month's, moving to the South East side of the Island (Protaras). We visited a place in the sun exhibition this year to help gather information, which was very informative, we attended seminars with experts giving advice on moving to Cyprus. To answer your question, we met Nick from Blevins Franks based in Paphos, who is a financial planning consultant . We also met Esme who is a lawyer from Michael Kyprianou in Cyprus, she gave us confidence having met her and after research seems to have a good reputation, hope that helps
