I'm 77 a successful entrepreneur from USA who was hoping to spend the rest of my life in Canada spending my money and paying very high taxes. Canada is a magical place. Because of my age I sometimes need a little help when I am out and about no problem in Canada but problem, for sure in USA! Canada does NOT want people my age to live here for a good reason. Their free national health plan includes care for, not only the sick person in the hospital but also for their families. I was recently hospitalized for 11 days. Social workers at the hospital knew my wife was in a wheelchair at home and they asked numerous times if she needed help. Eventually a official from the hospital came in and told me I had to leave without having my health issues solved. Lesson learned:
You will never get to participate in the national
Health plan if you over 74. Any ancillary health Insurance you by WILL NOT be adequate.
So unless you have a clear path to citizenship
go somewhere else.

Sorry you didn't get the healthcare you were hoping for. I hope you have found a solution to your health issue.

My understanding is that Citizens, permanent residents & refugees have rights to the public health coverage. This is common in most countries.

Where I live, in Spain, even permanent residents often struggle to access the healthcare system, unless they have worked here.
