Looking for areas of Cyprus to live

Hi all
My wife an myself are once again getting that 7 year itch, and looking for areas of Cyprus to live.
the last time we tried we went for the off plan new property build in Vrysoules ( i think that's the correct spelling?)and we got caught out by using a spurious developer.
This put us off the whole idea of any sort of house purchase to say the least.
So to cut a very long story short we have had 7 years to get over it and fast approaching retirement 2025.
We are visiting Cyprus for a 14 night holiday in September near Ayia Napa and will definitely be having a look around to try again.
We have seen some properties in Avgorou, around our £150K budget but not sure of what to expect as we do not know the area.( but not limited to that area and open to suggestions)

Veronica and nhowarth where very helpful the last time we tried.
Help and comments are welcome.
thanks.

Hi Monivea
Thanks for reply
I have not checked visa requirements. I have just renewed my passport as it was up in May 24 (states British Passport), my wife's passport is still valid and is a EU issue. (is this going to be a problem?)
Cyprus has always been our favourite country and the only country my wife would consider moving to. and of course the sunshine ☀ ☀ ☀
Last time we went with the intention of buying a pre built property but were persuaded to buy a new build, this did not end well, but this time we only intend to look at pre built properties with title deeds.
we do not have any legal support at this point, even though we did have a Cypriot solicitor last time it did not help !
thank you for the help

I would strongly recommend you take a look at the Paphos area. For full time living it is the best as it has a more stable climate than the East coast and not so many businesses close down in the winter. Also the East coast has a lot more problems with the lager lout brigade in the summer. Also a word of warning, there are more crooked developers on the East coast. If you decide to buy there it is safer to buy a resale but use a lawyer from Limassol or Nicosia not one that is based on the East coast. This advice came to me from a Nicosia lawyer who has the guts to stand up and be counted and has been actively taken crooked lawyers to court. He told me that the East coast has far more crooked lawyers and developers than any other area of Cyprus.

Hi Veronica
Nice to hear from you.
The last time we were having problems, you and Nigel where a big help in sorting out the issues we had.
I will have to take a look at the new immigration laws (new to me), because when we tried to move last time, we were still in the EU.

You probably don't remember the issues we had when we last spoke, but you are spot on with the East coast lawyer and developer's.
We will have a look around the Paphos area for something in our £150k budget - something a bit out of the hustle and bustle but not to far away that we can't enjoy a short trip to the shops and sea.
Can you or anyone reading this post advise on areas, or maybe if anyone knows of someone selling up ?

Thanks for the help
Mick

Hi Mick. Unfortunately I am not in Cyprus anymore so am a bit out of touch with what is happening where. You will find that properties outside Paphos in the villages will be a little less expensive and when I have looked there are plenty available. We left Cyprus 5 years ago to escape the unrelenting heat of the summers. We moved to France where the weather is better than the Uk but not a hot a Cyprus. It suits us very well.

Best to look at a weather app like Ventusky. Shows you a map of the island with temperatures that vary greatly by location. Inland locations like Nicosia get the hottest. Coastal locations such as Paphos are coolest, particularly the hills nearby such as Tala and Tsada. We are in Tala. This year we had a couple of spells in June when we reached the upper 30s. They lasted a few days, then temps fell back. Don’t go by the averages. Check Ventusky for what is happening now and over the next week.

thank you for the information
The more i look at things, it seems to be getting to be a battel to come over with visa issues in particular.
We nee to have a good old chat and think it through - devastated as we have been planning this pre EU exit. :(

Well, there are options available. Good link here but maybe other countries closer to UK can offer more. After all, it's more than a 4 hour flight to Cyprus and being so close to conflict zones can also be a risk in the future. Portugal also offers a D7 Visa with lower income requirements, just an example.

As Monivea says Brittany has much the same weather as the Uk and in the winter gets even colder. Further south in areas like Deux sevres and Vienne etc the climate is milder. Close to the coast, La Rochelle For instance property is more expensive than inland. You need to bear in mind that the very cheap properties usually need money pending in them to bring them into the 21st century. However they have a lot of character. Don't be tempted though by large amounts of land as that can come with problems unless you have a use for it. We have 4000m2 and even that is getting to be a bit much for my OH as he gets older.
