“Can my 13-year-old son travel to France on a long-stay visitor visa (for about a year)?
What valid reasons and documents does the French consulate usually accept for minors — especially regarding guardianship arrangements and proof of funds?
Also, what valid reasons for the stay are normally accepted when they ask why he is going to France?

We are from Africa, and we already have someone in France who is ready to act as his guardian if required.

Has anyone here had similar experience with getting a long-stay visitor visa approved for a minor? Any advice would be appreciated 🙏🏻

Also, if there is maybe an immigration personnel or someone who knows about the visa procedures or handles visas, please share — I prefer to get the correct information directly so I don’t waste time or play around.”

He'll be travelling alone for a football program or I'll say cultural experience(the program runs for a year but not officially recognized by the FFF of France )that's why I want to know the acceptable reasons to say or I'll say to live with his guardian and later school there(how about that )thanks 🙏🏻

I do not know honestly what is acceptable or not, but I tend to find that the truth is always the best way .... otherwise you will have to prepare something to explain why a minor is traveling alone that convinces the consulate provided with sufficient funds and housing from the guardian to support the kid, may be you will be asked for schooling arrangements as well.
good luck !

Someone in the executive ranks of the program he'll be attending should have the relevant information regarding foreign participants and what type of visa (i.e. what to state as the "purpose" of his stay in France). It's very possible that your son may be eligible for a student visa (not only for adults) but that would mean that the directors of the football program assume responsibility for ensuring that he attends the appropriate form of schooling as part of the program.

Be very careful of this sort of arrangement. There are numerous instances of child trafficking based on sports or other sorts of programs not "formally recognized" by the French authorities. If they are relying on you to come up with the appropriate visa category and/or assign a guardian they may not be legit. Proceed with extreme caution if the program officials can't give you reliable answers.
