Hi all,

I'm finally on the last stage for applying for the visa to get my US citizen fiance to come and live with me over in the UK :) I'm so excited and nervous....as you all can imagine.

Last few questions (are highlighted in bold font since I've wrote a lot)

Part of the financial requirement is made up of cash savings given to me from my parents. I've got bank statements of theirs stamped showing the money leaving their account going to my mum's one which has an online instant transaction set up with mine. (so the money went from a joint savings account by my parents, to my mum's current account, to my current account to then my savings accounts I've set up purposely for this - a bond, ISA and instant access saver)

on 01/05/13 money (20,000) went from my parents joint account, to my mums current, to my current account. on 3/05/13 I put 15,000 in a 2 year fixed rate saver and then 5,000 in an ISA. On 3/12/13 I cancelled the 2 year fixed rate saver and the money was sent to my current account again via CHAPS. It seems that this follows the guidelines for investment accounts, Q1. am I correct in thinking a 2 year fixed rate saver (Basically a bond) is allowed? 7.4.8 of the financial requirement guidelines. Then for the 7.4.9, the evidence, all I've got from when I cancelled it is statement they then sent out. It's from Tesco Bank showing the deposit being made back in May, then it cancelled down and transferred, tax and interest earned and the account closed. it just looks like a normal statement. Q2. Will that be enough?

Then in June 2013 I realised I didn't have enough savings (I earn 14500 plus comission however my last 6 month payslips add up to 16900) so I got another transfer from my parents joint savings account. (It's a good account with high interest) 8,000 was transferred the exact same way on 1/07/13 and then on 15/07/13 it shows on my current account statement money being transferred to Virgin Money savings account. On my Virgin online account it says effective date 13/07/13 and then transaction date 13/07/13. Q3. Am I best just to wait until the 15/01/14 to apply instead of the 13th?

My partner also has $23700 in savings but they've only been in his account since 20/09/13 so there isn't much point in including that as it isn't 6 months...Q4 am I correct?

- I've got a letter from my parents saying its a gift and their bank statements stamped showing the money leave their account and go to mine. Q5. Should I also get a copy of my mum's current account showing the money go in there from the joint savings and then leave to go into my current account?

- Q6. do I need also proof how my parents came about that money? my grandmother had a five year bond from 2005 - 2010 and then gave the money to my parents and the money has been kept since for me and my sister. I now obviously have half of it to be used for the visa requirements.

- For living accommodation, we are currently living with my parents as I don't want to buy a house until we are married. I've got a copy of the land registry documents from Scotland which are different from England/Wales. I've got a copy of the estate agency brochure about the property and sizes, pictures of the extension my parents built on the property which is going to be the room my fiance/me will stay (Where I am staying just now). I've also got council tax bill and then a utility bill which is in my name at the address (For Sky tv phone and broadband) Q7. Is that sufficient? It is a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house with currently just my parents and 1 sibling staying, so there is an extra bedroom.

-Q8. When we've went on the website to do the online application, what are the drop-down options we choose for the fiance? live permanently in the UK without becoming a citizen the partner or spouse of someone with the right to live in the UK

- Q9. How does the priority service work? I understand we apply online, print the application out, then get the biometrics appointment and keep that receipt or whatever you get from that then include those documents in the evidence which we will send to Sheffield, England. We want to pay the extra for WorldBridge but do you do that separately from the UKBA website to apply online or does it automatically transfer you to that site?

Q10 I've currently got all our documents in a Lever Arch folder, in sheet protectors/punched pockets. Is that suitable presentation? Do I need to make copies of everything?

Sorry for all these questions, I just want to make sure I've got everything prepared.

Thanks, and I hope everyone has a happy holiday :)

I can only help with the last 2 questions, sorry!

Priority service is totally separate from the visa application and UKBA. When your application is completed and ready to send, you go to the WorldBridge website and go to "other services", choose priority for a settlement visa, go to check out and pay there. You will get an email with the receipt that you need to print out (keep an extra copy for your records) and then it should be placed on top of your documentation. Be sure to follow their directions about writing the number on your package! (Don't forget to include a return waybill and envelope.)

Do NOT send documents in any kind of folder or with any kind of dividers, page protectors, etc. This only adds to your shipping cost, and you run the risk of aggravating the ECO who has to process it! Group the documentation into sections such as application, accommodation, financial, relationship and tie with string or similar material, group copies behind originals. Make it as simple as possible for the ECO. They don't want to have to spend time taking stuff apart. They will thumb through the paperwork and remove what they need and send back what they don't. In my case, they never even undid the sections. Keep your choice of documentation and number of pages as simple and concise as possible. Don't send anything extra - only what exactly meets their requirements.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help it really means a lot. Did you include copies of everything along with originals? for example bank statements, work contract etc? And each section I will just tie with string with a heading in front, ''financial requirement evidence'' ''living accommodation'' etc?

thanks again :)

The whole application package shouldn't come to more than 2-3 lbs. If yours is significantly more that this, it means you are sending way too much, and need to cut down drastically. Often people send 100s of pages of Skype log or email record but all you need is representative samples (without content) every 6 months. It shouldn't come to more than around 10 pages of A4.
