I get those BDO texts once in a while and I don't even have a BDO account.

 

No matter where you live people try and make you scared and act too fast. I basically delete or set filters to delete most emails or texts. I also have a email debugger that can show where the links go without clicking. The banks here send too many texts and emails about getting a credit card. I delete it all.

 

My gf has a friend who fell hook, line and sinker for something like this with her G-Cash. She lost in the region of 7000 PHP.

There is also a scary new thing the scammers are doing - using advanced AI voices to make it "sound like the bank manager". As the language & voice models become more advanced the dragnet is going to ensnare more of the unwary.

They really need to start ramping up cybersecurity education in schools and barangays. Setting up a screen in the local basketball courts and doing an engaging presentation on this stuff isn't hard. The beauty pageants take priority of course.

 

My wife just got scammed booking a hotel over Facebook. It's everywhere.

 

My asawa got a similar email from 'BDO' and fortunately asked me what it meant... Worryingly, when I checked th email address that it came from, it was almost believable, something like 'xxx @cc.bdo.ph'.

 

I consider all of Facebook to be scammy. Why most people here use it instead of more reasonable ways to communicate. Almost all the info is out of date or inaccurate. Digital info is very poor here for most businesses.
With all the ways to trick people it is almost impossible to believe anything is genuine.
