Correos question?

Hi
I posted a parcel from a Correos office on 19th August to someone in Australia, using tracked international post.
In this particular case the lady working at Correos did not take any email address or phone number from me, just the recipient and return address.
So all I have is a photo of the label that I took, with the tracking number on it.
On 15th September the recipient emailed me and said that he had failed to pick up the parcel from the post office in Australia, called customer services with the tracking number, and they told him that it had been sent back to Spain.
When I enter the tracking number on correos.es it shows none of this, the last update is:-
"Leaving the Exchange Office
21 of August, 2025 · 17:33
The shipment has left the international logistics centre of origin and is en route to its destination"
The next stage is "out for delivery" but that's greyed out and never happened.
There is no sign of Correos trying to deliver it back at the return address, but it must be due soon.
As an added twist, I am not at the return address right now, but someone else is.
I'm wondering whether Correos will hand it to someone with a different name but at the return address or not, or to a neighbour (it's a block of flats with a common front door) if no one is in.
I'm also wondering if there will be fees to be paid or not.
Anyone been in a situation like this before?
thanks
