HK? get rid of the bird eating cats. Simple. We have 2 Labradors and locked in on a 2,000 M2 lot, walk them we do on the beach with harnesses and leads, They had their Rabies shots, we have had them now near 2 years and while frightening to most with their loud deep barks are as harmless as a lamb. The neighbours cats don't come here now as our kids bail them up, I see more birdlife in the last 12 months including the blue kingfishers and other native wildlife, cats are natural killers either for fun or a feed and decimate the wildlife from reptiles to birds.
Many have cats claiming they keep the rats and mice at bay, they only come because of food scraps/unsavoury environment. We don't have cats, rats nor mice here.

Cheers, Steve.
I'll get rid of my cats if you get rid of your dogs...deal?

@HK Blues

My 2 dogs don't decimate the the wild life as cats do.
Look at the world wide figures of extinctions as the result from cats, not rocket science.
We had a chocolate point Burmese that was well fed but every day or second day would present it's latest kill at the door, not for food but for the chase, bird, lizard, snake it didn't care, dead. We had that cat 10 years and I don't miss it one bit. Never again. Scourge of the earth.

OMO.

Cheers, Steve.

@HK Blues

You deserve to feel good.
If you worry your vaccinated cats will give you rabies, then get rid of your cats.

Or you can get rabies shots every few years to prevent getting rabies. But check the side affects. I think death is a rare side affect.

Peace of mind is important.

But, I think vaccinated cats can't get rabies.

Yep...pets come with their own positives and negatives. Dogs disturbing the neighbourhood peace and quiet seems to be a particular problem in the Philippines, wouldn't you agree?

Agree with all of that.

Yes Dogs bark, here not so much and our 2 rare unless some fool is lurking or strange happenings. Before we got our dogs the cats would sit on the fences looking for a root, the noise would wake me 1/2/3/4 am and the noise and cries for gratification? Go figure.

Can you tell I have no time for cats?

Cheers, Steve.

Also Philippines has a population of 117 million people.

In 2024 had 426 fatal rabies cases.

That's around 4 cases per million people.

So, I am not worrying about it.

But if bitten/scratches get immediate rabies shots
We did...I clearly stated that in this very thread. My wife got her 2nd shot yesterday, cost 300php. Did she need it given our cat is vaccinated - no, but for her peace of mind she wanted to and I can't argue with that.

No mention of cats here -

2. Types of Neighbor Disputes Covered
Many common neighbor disputes are required to undergo barangay conciliation first. Examples include:
  1. Noise or Nuisances: Loud parties, incessant barking of dogs, smoke, foul odors, or any activities considered nuisances under local ordinances.

Cats and dogs are great, but both have their downsides and, for me, the downside with dogs is greater than for cats.

Again, each to their own.

How painful are the shots ?
The tiny injection needle used and just placed under the skin, the shoulders or upper arms.

First time required shots in both arms, 4 injection's the second time you get rabies it's only two shots if within a certain amount of years also both arms(update).

So the schedule is if you start on Tuesday you get the second injection Friday and then 3 rd injection next Friday and then 28 days after that the 4th injection.

If it's your second time around you get the injection on a Tuesday (or on a Friday don't wait) then last injection on Friday.

The main reason the rabies (my opinion only) these shots are so expensive at the hospital is you waste a medicine vial but at the rabies clinics they get several patients at the same time and can use up the vial and no waste.
