hey everyone..

I'm an American citizen soon becoming a EU citizen (one month) and speak very little french. I just moved to the Alsace Region (near Colmar/Stratsbourg/Mulhouse) and am looking for any kind of work. Anyone know of any American or UK companies in the region? Or any kind of work that an expat like me can do?

Thanks!

What sort of training/background do you have?

The Alsace region isn't really known for international or regional headquarters of US or UK companies that use English as their primary language (and that would be mostly for executives).
Cheers,
Bev

Thanks for the info!
Thats what I thought: I actually have a background in the arts and film writing, but of course have worked a variety of jobs before graduating college- barista, server, sales, etc. I think my best hope is to try to learn French as soon as possible and in the mean time try to sell some paintings with local galleries or find some kind of labor job, or try:)

You might try taking a look just across the border in Germany. I used to work near Freiburg and they seem to be particularly used to "Grenzensprenger" ("border hoppers"). It would obviously help if you spoke German, but I certainly found that the Germans are more forgiving of your efforts with the local language than the French sometimes are.

There are a number of US/UK companies in Alsace...

Advanced Bionics Rixheim
Wrigley near Neuf Breisach
Timken Colmar

I could go on...that's just off the top of my head...and then Basel has plenty of English speaking companies...

Novartis and Roche being the two big ones, but really there are quite a few...
Many offers in Strasbourg, all over Alsace and in neighboring Germany of Switzerland.

Organise your search with key words on the web. Start with monster.fr, then monster.de, and so on.

Good luck
Hi Waldo,

When you say 'any kind of work' to what do you refer? What kind of positions have you held in the past ?
