Hi people, new to the forum, hope you don't mind me posting and asking a few questions?
I am a construction site manager in the uk, I have Btech in civil engineering, HNC in construction management and have been a site manager for around 9 years, My wife is a hairdresser with her own salon here in the uk, she has all relevant qualifications, teaching certificates etc, I know we more than qualify on the points system etc, but my main question is...Do i stand a chance of getting a job as a site manager in oz?
We are just in the process of visas etc, THis will take a while, lol we arnt in a major rush, just thought this might help settle us a little,
thanks for your time and look forward to reading your replies.
Kind regards
Luke

You are a Civil Engg: That occupation is found in Critical Skill List.
Code no: 2124-11 . This occupation is found to be in shortage list.
That means no need to worry as you will get it.
Also seems enough experience.

If you stick on to the post for Site Manager on immediate arrival you may have to wait 2 or 3 months (rarely)
First its better to make some months experience in Australia and stick on to that post.

The gis of your Q seems to be OZ employment. Check out the recruitors online. There might be some local licensing requirements, etc.
Hi Luke

I have just applied to have a skills assessment via Engineers Australia using one of the two internationally agreed accords (i.e. Washington and Sydney Accord).

A good starting point would be to check the Engineering Council of UK (ECUK) webpage to see if your qualification sits in one of the Accords. I'm a Building Services Design Engineer and am fortunate that my degree sits in the Accords. I'm not sure about Civils though, but would certainly recommend starting there.

After that you should check out the Engineers Australia Website for advice on skills assessment. It may well be the case that you need to complete a competancy demonstration report (CDR) but this would simply be the same as for any institution in the UK.

Also you could look at the department for immigration web site where you will find a breakdown of each ASCO code to see if you feel that you fit into these. These forms should also inform you as to who will be your assessing body in Oz - most likely to be EA because we have civil engineers in our office who came form Oz and are members of EA.

Good luck.
