We are thinking of having our first trip to Cyprus in Feb, 17th to 24th (mid to late month) Picked the hotel The Riu in Paphos but can anyone advise what we can expect in terms of the weather - we know the sunshine this early is not guaranteed but just fancied an early break after all the snow and cold. Thanks

Expect a lot of rain and spectacular lightning storms in February.
However in between the storms we also get sunny spells.
As long as you have some warm clothing with you and not just all summer stuff you will be fine.

It has been very wet and stormy so far this winter with record levels of rainfall and some serious flooding and a few tornados (on the east of the island and one devastating tornado in the capital Nicosia). Snow has started to make an appearance on the Troodos, but I expect you've had enough of that and will want to stick to the beaches! It will probably feel pleasantly warm for you having come from the UK, but the locals won't take off their quilted jackets and fur coats until the mercury gets back into the mid 20s (as they are used to summer temperatures in the high 30s) -it's all a matter of contrast. At the moment its c 14-18 during the day and can feel decidedly cold in the evenings. Bear in mind that most Cypriot buildings are designed to shed heat, so it can feel very cold indoors. I'd come prepared for rain, but bring the sunblock too, because even in times of unsettled weather it very rarely remains overcast for too long (a couple of days at most), but when it does rain it can be quite scary - there have been reports of people having to be rescued from cars that have been washed into seasonal rivers etc. The countryside will be looking at its best and is already incredibly green - by February the spring flowers should be making an appearance and the salt lakes will be full of flamingoes, and because of the high water this year there'll be plenty of food for them so they should be very pink by February. I drove by the lake at Larnaca yesterday and there are already a few thousand there.

Hope you have a safe trip and some good weather!
