no I didn't. Actually this didnt come to my mind. I was so occupied with other things. But its not expensive you can take it easily.
Hi Bimal,

I booked my accommodation through airbnb. I did not pay any security deposit. But it was mentioned in the details. Does it mean that I would have to pay it to the land lady directly?
I remember you told that you are yet to get the security deposit back. Whom did you pay this to?

Further, how did you get the OPAL card?
Which one is better for one week stay? MyMulti or OPAL? MyMulti-3 costs $63/adult and is valid for entire greater Sydney network. How much was your total OPAL expense towards conveyance?
Further, I also read that OPAL is still not fully implemented in the entire transportation network.
Please suggest.

I guess security deposit is at landlord's discretion. He may or may not want you to pay it. If it is asked by the landlord, you need to pay it directly to the landlord against which you can take a receipt with his signature.

Hi Bimal,

Thanks for sharing your details- very helpful. I also plan to make the first entry in early 2015, although in Adelaide.

My question is- when you opened the bank account, what documents, address etc did you provide?

Thanks

Dear Wasim
Security deposit was taken by Air BnB website payment system means there will be no direct cash transaction during your entire stay. Its part of rent which you will not get back ever neither u will get any signed receipt from anyone so move on with next things.
Opal card can be bought from any Seven Eleven shops, you can buy it from some news paper agencies based at various train stations. Town Hall station has one almost all the major stations have kiosks, just ask around people will guide you to a nearest seller.
Opal card is convenient n cheaper then My multi it cost me 40 AUD for adult card in a week including my return journey to airport (which includes airport access charge) Child card cost me 20 AUD for a week. It works on train, bus n ferry. once there was wrong charging then I called to call centre n the amount was corrected immediately. I felt its more convenient cheaper and offers more freedom to move around. The amount depends on how much you travel it has maximum cap of 60$ in week if I am not mistaken. Just check on OPAL website.

Query

Hi Guys,

Nice write up Bhimal. Thanks for the info.

I have the following query

I got my VISA grant by June 2014, i have to make my first entry before June 2015 and i am planning a validation trip for a week to sydney by May 2015.
I am not planning to move to OZ anytime soon for another 3 years at least, my PR is till June 2019, so say, i move into OZ by Jan 2019, what do i do after my PR expires?

I cannot stay beyond June 2019? If so, what are my options? How do i extend it?

Regards,
Avinash

Hi Avi
Congrats for the grant and wish u all the best for your validation trip.
Every one gets PR for only 5 years post that you have three options listed below in order of merit:-
1. Apply for citizenship and become an Aussie
2. Apply for Resident Returning Visa just in time before your PR expires.
3. Do nothing keep living in Australia and never come out of Australia but when you have to fly out of Australia apply for RRV.

hope it will help.

Adding to what BimalKumar has mentioned, once you enter Australia, you can stay there indefinitely. PR never expires, it is only the travel authority which gets expired after 5 years. That means you cannot enter or exit Australia post the 5 year period.

To be eligible for RRV, you need to have strong ties with Australia such as proper job. To get a 5 year RRV, one needs to be physically present in Australia for a total of at least two years in the last five years. Otherwise you get 1 year or 3 months RRV.

To be eligible for applying Citizenship, you needs to be in living in Aus for atleast 4 years without a break greater than 1 year.

So keep these points in mind for planning the permanent move.

Hello,

I will be reaching Aus on a visa validation trip in March. My question is that in the Arrival Card at Immigration, which option to choose? Permanently migrating (A) or Tourist (B).
Will be glad to get a response on this. Thanks

For Visa Validation trip, you should choose option B Tourist or Temporary Entrant. Then further below choose the appropriate box for 'your main reason for coming to Australia'.

Hi,
So I choose "Others" in Option B and mention that I am coming for the validation trip, right?

Thanks a lot!

PR Validation tourism pacakge

Dear Friends,

Thanks for the valuable information shared. I would like to know which would be better while going for PR validation. Either going through a tourism packages like Thomas Cook, Cox&Kings etc, or plan your own trip. If the difference is not much, then going for a tourism package will make the trip more memorable. Please let me know from your experiences.

thanks in advance

Hi mamu I have definitely not forgotten. I am still travelling in India hence don't have stable connectivity to post my pics and details. But will do so soon say by 15 October. I will try not to miss this deadline. But to give a gist of my trip:- it was fantastic trip for our family of four. We travelled from Delhi by Malaysia airline. Journey was pleasant. Sydney airport checkout was smooth we took taxi went to our acco which was a 2 bedroom house hired on air bnb website. We stayed there for 6 nights and cooked our own vegetarian food.our expense on fruits n vegetables were 79 $ other groceries were 43$. We did all our shoppings from also stores. Taxi from airport to Artarmon was 77$. We travelled in Sydney by train by using opal card. Total cost was 120$. Travelling on Sundays cost only 2.5$ per person. We took advantage of it and on Sundays we travelled on ferries, buses to opera house and many many places. Our 120 $ on opal card also includes our journey back to Sydney airport. Experience in overall terms was excellent and I wish I could stay there whole of my life. Jobs are not big issues. If u r willing to work hard and have dignity of labour means if you consider all work is work n work worship( that's what Australians believe in) then you don't need to worry. I almost got job in aldi store and in a restaurant with payment of 23$ per hour n in restaurant at 27$ per hour. Which was not bad. Other details later.
Hi,
You mentioned that you almost got a job in aldi store and a restaurant easily. Can you please let me know how you approached this. Like did you just look for "needed people board", did you check on some site, or just talked around.

All the names you mentioned are super expensive tour operators. I don't know which country you are from, but if it's India, then there are heaps of much cheaper tour operators which you can go through if at all your plan is to tour Australia. If you plan is just to validate visa and see the country and life for a few days, then you don't need to go through a tour operator.
