So, I basically screwed myself over here... I didn't realize how long it would take to get an appointment at the French consulate for visa processing, and I am in big trouble. I'm supposed to start my job May 28th, but the next appointment at the Atlanta consulate is not until May 24th. Then, the visa takes a couple weeks to process (it will be a scientist visa).

Is it possible to go to other consulates, or only your local one? In Houston, an appointment is available on May 8th, which would be close, but I might be able to get to France as scheduled. My work has still not issued my protocole de accueil. I had been waiting for this to make an appointment, which was a very bad choice, apparently.

According to what is posted on the consulate websites, they really expect you to make your appointment at the consulate serving the state in which you are living.

What some folks have reported doing is checking the online appointment system a couple of times a day to snap up any "freed up" appointment that comes available. You might be able to try that and see if you can move up your appointment.
Cheers,
Bev

Hi Bev,

I sat and refreshed the page for a couple of hours, and I did get another appointment! One opened up on May 4th, which will hopefully be enough time for the visa to be issued (anyway, it could not be much earlier, because I still do not have my protocole de accueil...). Thanks for the advice!
