USA Car Insurance For Foreigners

Hi All,

I'm a British citizen who has just recently arrived in the US and haven't as yet managed to get a local license.

I've been looking for quotes for car insurance only and the prices being quoted are really high, I suspect it's because I'm a foreigner with no local driving history.

Can anybody recommend any companies who specialise in car insurance for foreigners and/or ways I can help to reduce my premium as a new driver to the country please?

First of all, you need to check on what the insurance requirements are in the state in which you are resident in the US. Each state has its own requirements, but you may want to consider something more than the bare minimum policy. You may want to consider talking to an "independent agent" i.e. an insurance agent who represents a wide array of companies. But first of all you need to look into getting a local license asap. Many states only allow you 30 days or so from arrival to get a local license.
