UK Citizen Marrying US Citizen - Visa Questions

Hi Everyone,
My bf and I are discussing about getting married at some point and I have been researching the requirements for me to live in US permanently. It seems to be a minefield and confusing as to what needs to be done.

So far I think the best route for me is to marry in the US and understand the following:

1) My US fiancé would need to apply for K1 visa which will give me 90 days to enter and marry. Approx how long does it take to obtain the K1 visa and can you state a date to enter US for marriage? I’m confused by knowing when to arrange the wedding ceremony as it does take planning if you don’t know when you can enter.

2) Once married, then we have to then apply to adjust status using Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status. So can I still live with my husband whilst applying and waiting or would I have to return to the UK once the 90 days is up?

3) As I need to show documents etc initially my passport would be in maiden name and I don’t think there would be time to update my passport via British Consular and applying for adjustment so would the marriage certificate act as a linking document to confirm name change?

4) If I’m able to reside in US whilst waiting, can I travel back home to UK to visit family?

5) At what stage would I be able to open a bank account in US? Or am I ok having an international bank account from UK.

6) I understand that I would need to get my drivers permit again in US and have seen need to get original documents with my name and address but if can’t get bank account initially then what else is acceptable?

I have to admit that I’m quite overwhelmed about it all which is why I need to be aware of what is involved.

Thank you so much for any help with the above questions. I really appreciate it.

Drivers License
Review on the site of DMV for your future state. then ask questions please.
Travel whilin AoS adjustment of status is not advised.
Bank account may have to read W8 or W9 until you can provide proof of residency.
K1 - Travel.state.gov gives timelines. You have 90 days from issuance to getting married and file AoS. It may be easier to get married at a courthouse and have a ceremony/reception later.

1. Takes approx 12 months. Many people who want to marry in the US, get married and then UK citizen returns to UK and they apply for the CR1 visa. (the CR1 visa takes about 12 months too), but means you can at least plan your wedding without trying to tie it in with the K1 visa.
2. Once in the US either on K1 or CR1 you can remain in the country while you adjust status.
3. Yes, marriage certificate would be valid for obtaining further documentation
4. Not advised without getting a Parole document
5. You can open a bank account once resident in the US
6. Bank account not needed to get driving licence. Proof of residence and legal stay in country is.
