Two expats getting married - Visa situation?

1490 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  TM062202
Hi everybody,

My girlfriend and me are both on residence visas in the UAE, both working.
Now, if we were to get married at home (europe), would this lead to a change in our UAE visa status?
For instance she would lose "her own" visa and has to be sponsored by me?
Or does it all stay the same?

Anything else we have to keep in mind, with regards to HR at our companies or so?

Thanks for any input!

There is no reason you cannot both be sponsored by employers just because you are married. There is no reason anything needs to change, unless you want to quit your job and live a life of luxury while you wife supports you in the manner which you are accustomed. In that case she will have to sponsor you :)

Hi ,

you both can maintain your own independent visa status .

However if in future your wife does decide, she does not want to work you could just as easy have her visa transferred and become her sponsor .

Other things to keep in mind depending on what benefit your company offers :

Medical Insurance your wife can avail etc... you and her need to check with your individual hr department what benefits your spouse is entitled too

However i had to get my marriage certificate attested by dubai courts in order to avail all benefits my husband company offered me ::)
No reason to change visas. You do however need to have your marriage certificate attested by the Ministry of Interior and your Embassy/Consulate so that you are considered "legally" married in Dubai as well.

You also need these documents when your wife falls pregnant as the hospitals require proof of marriage.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding :)
