I am a US citizen, and I am currently on a research scientist visa. I was thinking about going to Geneva next weekend because I found cheap tickets. I just wanted to make sure, I am allowed to leave the country and reenter on my visa correct? It says its good for multiple entries and expires in March.

Also, will I need anything else to reenter the country other than my passport? I have some work contracts that I showed when I first entered. Should I take those with me in case?

I haven't booked my ticket yet because I just wanted to make sure I can actually leave first and come back without any problems.

As long as you are on a residence visa for France, you can "visit" any of the Schengen countries (of which Switzerland is considered to be a member) for up to 90 days at a time. A weekend trip to Switzerland should be no problem, and chances are you won't be asked for anything at the border. (Best to have the passport and visa/residence permit with you, however.)
Cheers,
Bev
