Tourist Visa after being denied entry.

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right forum to post my question in.

I was denied entry in the USA in 2009. It was a pretty traumatic experience for me I must say.
Anyway , since then I've moved to the UK where I am now living for almost 5 years. I'm now settled down with a full time job and live in a shared house as almost all Londoners do : ).
I can't lie that a trip back to the US has always been in my dreams , but just to visit and a see a few friends that I really miss. And so now I think is the right time to do it.
I know that I can never use the VWP again so I'll have to apply for a B2/tourist visa.

My question is, if anyone that has had any similar experience has any advice and if I apply for a Visa will I need to hire a lawyer, before I do.

I really appreciate all the help you guys can give me.
Thank you so much.

Thank you very much for your replies!
I have a document with all the questions the immigration officer asked me that day and my answers. And I think they assumed I was living in the US without a Visa.. cause I went in and out 3 times and worked part time in a restaurant while I was studying. It is something I regret now and was really a bit naĂŻve of me at the time.
The only think I know for sure is that I'm banned from the VWP for life.

But what is an info pass ?

Thank you again,
R.

Were you given any information about whether you are (or were) barred from entry, and for how long? Normally if you're barred from entry you'll barred for 3 years, 10 years, or life. That's the period of time during which any visa application must be denied (except in extraordinary circumstances). In the circumstances you describe a lifetime bar would be most unusual. I doubt that's what happened. If you're not too anxious to visit the United States you could wait until 10 years have elapsed (in 2019) and then try to apply for a visa. If you were barred for 10 years then that period of time will have passed by then. But if you know (or can find out) you were barred for 3 years, or not barred at all, then you can try to get a visitor visa right now.

Hi. I don't think I was barred from entry. There's nothing that mentions it in the report that I was given. But I will email the Us embassy here in London and with the number of my report they hopefully will be able to give me an answer. : )

Thank you,
R.
