Here is a good question (in my mind anyway lol) for some of you.

Was thinking of purchasing a motorbike before going over there, now Im wondering if they are more expensive in Spain than here, if not would be senseless to buy here.
So you motorbike fans here (surely there are loads) all info gladly received :)

Motorbikes are definitely cheaper in the UK but...........if you buy one in the UK and ride it over here (which, by the way, is a fantastic experience) by the time you have spent money having it changed over to Spanish registration etc, etc it would probably work out cheaper to buy one here!

Hola

Are you talking about a brand new motorbike or second hand? But to avoid the "first registration tax" commonly wrongly called import duty, you must have owned the bike for a year. This tax nullifies any gain in normal circumstances

........ purchase in Spain.

Unless you already own the bike & it is something special to you, doing anything else will take money, time & aggravation which will eliminate any financial saving you may make buying in the UK. There is also a qualifying period of ownership to have even the standard level of money, time & aggravation!

I second that and would add that if you buy in Spain and find a problem, you can go back to the same dealer, which would be a problem if you bought abroad.

Thanks folks, did fancy the ride over but from the general opinion it would be silly to buy over here

Hi , we have done both ! We brought a few bikes with us which ended up going back to the UK , fortunately pre-sold as they would have cost us more than they were worth to re-register here. We kept one which is now on Spanish plates , it cost us 1000 euros to do that but it is now worth a lot more here. It was a special edition Suzuki GSXR 1000 and the 1000 euro was money well spent. We also bought a bike here for our daily use , an Aprillia 650 and found whilst it took a long time to find the right bike ,the change of ownership process was relatively simple and we have a really nice bike. It helps if you can do the necessary docs yourself but that requires a reasonable level of Spanish and understanding of the requirements but all the info on the process is available online. Feel free to PM if you want some more info and good luck
