Hi,

I'm looking for some advice from teachers from Aus - preferably from WA - who are now teaching in Alberta...

I've just received my LOI so I have a visa to work in Canada. I've passed my medical which also means I can teach in Canada. The next step for me is to apply for my teaching certification to Alberta Education but I'm finding the process to be very complicated.

I need to get original transcripts from my university and a letter of professional standing from the teaching authority which they need to send to Canada - not me - I hate the feeling of relying on others to submit on my behalf with such an application.

I'm probably feeling flustered from reading so much information but was hoping someone has had experience with getting their teaching qualifications certified.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Am not a teacher but a speech therapist so have had to undergo a similar process... it is pretty standard procedure. Just ring up (or email) your university and they may have a form you have to fill in telling them where to send the information to. The same with the teaching authority. basically, once you send off your application form to Alberta Education, and they receive it, they will open a file on you so as soon as they get those pieces of information, they will just put it in your file. I know, it sounds weird and I kept thinking they might loose documents but really they do this all the time so would be pretty used to it. Good luck.

Thanks for responding. I've spoken to a really helpful person at Alberta Education over the phone who was happy to answer my long list of questions :) Also, the different authorities who have had to send things on my behalf have been good about it as well.

I really got myself worked up when I shouldn't have - so now I'm taking one step at a time and not getting too stressed. I'm hoping all will fall into place eventually :)
