within the next few months i will (hopefully) be moving to the UK to live with my husband on a spouse visa. Obviously we are preparing for the move and trying to get everything in order. I have read some places that when you are permanently bringing items into the UK to live there, you will have to pay duty on them at the airport, i was wondering is this actually true? Are there certain items that you would have to pay on? I would mainly only be bringing clothing, my laptop, and other necessities, would i need to worry about any of that when i went there permanently?

Personal items such as those you mention won't be taxed. If you are shipping some separately, you have to complete customs declaration form describing them as personal effects and you won't pay any tax.
