Hi everyone.

Any advice please....
My now husband is here on an unmarried partner visa, we have since got married and I was wondering firstly if he needs to switch to a spouse visa so he can apply for citizenship after 3 years here, and also whether he needs to go back to Canada to extend his current visa?

Cheers.

No need to change visas. He needs to gain settlement after 5 years in UK first before he can apply for naturalisation. He can apply in UK.

Brilliant thanks. I have obviously read the paperwork wrong and assumed it was after 3 years. Does that mean if he lives here for 5 years he can apply for citizenship or is it another 3 years after the 5? Thanks.

After 5 years, he applies for ILR, and when granted, he can apply for citizenship straightaway.
