State Sponsorship and Skill Assessment?

Do I need to have positive skill assessment before applying for state sponsorship?
I am an electronics engineer and am just about to launch my skill assessment application, but I was thinking that if it possible to get state sponsorship at the same time, I should apply for it too.

Yes, you need a positive skills assessment before you can apply for the visa:

Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 176)
