I'm planing to start a family day care as soon as possible once settling in Sydney in July. We haven't narrowed down a suburb to live in yet and will be renting for at least a couple of years. Looking at between Normanhurst and Pymble areas.

Im currently a childminder in the UK and from the NSW family day care website it looks very similar to what I'm currently doing. Has anyone done a similar move? Does anyone have any advice.

Thanks a mil!

Hi.

I run a family day care in Perth, and also run a website and facebook page for carers feel free to come on the page and make some contacts in the area you intend to live.

At the moment FDC is run very differently in each state, but we are in the process of having national guidelines/regulations which will change things..

If you need any help, get in touch with me..

Hi
Thank you very much. I would love to see your page. I've tried to contact a couple of 'centres' through the fdc in the area but no one has. Got back to me yet. I presume it's because I'm not in Australia yet, but I'd like to know as much as possible so I can hit the ground running.

Thanks. Chat soon Lynda

I'm interested in this too as I'm also a childminder moving back to Oz. is there as much paperwork involved? Do you have inspections every three years etc? Is there an hourly rate like here and is there alot of need for childcare?

Hi,
We moved to Sydney two years ago and were looking for a Preschool for our eldest son and found it quite hard to find a spot as the best places had long waiting lists. This might be the same for Family Day Care. In case you haven't come across them yet, here are two websites we used when doing our research:
Find Childcare In Your Area - The Australian Child Care Index
CareforKids.com.au ® - Search for Child Care Centres Nannies Babysitters Au Pairs
Both these sites feature Family Day Care in NSW. In case they have long waiting lists I would recommend calling a few centres direct, it may seem costly from overseas but it will be worth it in the long run. Once we got here we paid $20 to add our sons' names to day care centre waiting lists in Sydney and wished we done this before leaving the UK.
Good luck with your plans.
