Hi All

As per DIAC there is a 2 years waiting period for newly arrived migrants (skilled migrant) to be eligible for social security payments.

I wanted to know one thing from the forum members. If a permanent resident arrives in Aus and registers for CRN (Centrelink Reference Number) and then get outside Aus for 6 months and then come back to reside permanently in Aus will he be eligible for social security payments after 2 years from his first date of entry or will it be 2.5 years from his first date of entry considering the 6 months he spent outside.

Thanks for letting me know.

Best Regards

Faisal

I think I read somewhere, it says if a PR has lawfully stayed in Australia for 2 years then only he would be entitled for Social security benefits. Seems that you have to be lawfully there for 2 years .

When you have PR you can sign up for, say, family tax benefit a few days after you arrive.
