Hi guys,

I moved to NZ last year and live in Palmerston North, due to workin
g every afternoon and evening(with a crowd who are all in there 20's and i'm nearly 40!) I don't get a chance to meet anyone and socialise. Desperatley missing girly nights out or even catch ups with coffee in the mornings. Does anyone know if there are any social groups etc...
Love my other half to death but I need some of my own friends!!

Nz is a great place to live and a decision i definately don't regret, just need to find some time and people to socialise with or another job!!

It depends what jobs you are looking for, have a look on seek.co.nz or trademe.co.nz you can look at houses there too. Mortgages are more expensive here as they haven't had the big recessiont he UK has had - i saw one for 4.99 for one year, although you can't get a mortgage from a standard bank until you are a resident.
the north island is stunning, and very friendly. You have to remember that standards here though are not the same as the UK and houses don't really have proper heating for the winter months, Electric and Gas are about 3 times more expensive here too. BUT, i wouldn't go back!
There are so many beautiful places here :O)

Wow! Yes I heard about the heating. My husband is a joiner and brings home £20 an hr and I'm a nanny and I'm on £10 an hr but realise we'll be on less but also if my step children come that will b an extra expense as we only see them 3 weekends out of the 4. We r jus currently getting the house up to spec xx we jus wanna better life than what we've got but also want time to save up but plan on selling our 5 bedroomed house when we know if we like NZ xx

I was a childminder in the UK and had a couple fo afterschool and holiday clubs! I miss my kiddies. You have 4 years from arriving here that you can sell your home in the UK and not be taxed on bringin the money into NZ, thats probably what I will do depending on how my tennant is at the time! x
