We are just realizing that we can not bring some of our furniture...

Any ideas on where to find small furniture? Stores in the US and France if you have any recommendations.

Thanks!

Depends what you mean by "small furniture" - but IKEA is kind of the standard in France. Do NOT buy stuff at IKEA in the US for transport to France. IKEA had to redesign all its lines to larger sizes to fit US massive homes. European IKEA stuff is smaller and better suited to European sized homes.

If you want "authentic" furniture, you could try trawling the local Depots Ventes. Some of them not only have second-hand stuff, but also brand new frustrated orders & end-of-line from manufacturers and furniture outlets. And you can haggle the price.

I bought a lot of furniture that way - from brand new dressers at a quarter of the price to an old huge farmhouse table at about a tenth of the "new" price - & got them delivered - which is no mean feat in the wilds of the Auvergne!

Happy trawling.

La Redoute : boutique ( vêtement femme, linge de maison, électroménager, lingerie ) en ligne

La Redoute is like the online "Target" in France. No stores though...but they have a lot of relatively inexpensive things compared with stores...

3 Suisses: Vêtement femme, mode homme et enfant, chaussures, matelas, électroménager et linge de maison

Trois Suisses is similiar to LaRedoute...you can shop on the couch :D

Petites annonces gratuites d'occasion - leboncoin.fr

Le Bon Coin is the Craigs list of France. We've bought some really nice furniture here for less than half the original price.

furniture in france

we found it'd cheaper to buy online in Uk and then find a small carrier to bring them to France, its excatly what we did, we've used a company based in London, where they received our order and then ship it to us on the next week. I can send you a link , if you find it interesting.
cheers Lars

We live in La Rochelle where there is an auction house (salle de ventes or encheres). We found some really nice things there. The actual auction experience was a little stressful but it worked! Also, look for Vide-Greniers--the French name for a sort of garage sale.

Furnisize.com - Find Furniture by Size

furnisize dot com lets you SEARCH FOR FURNITURE BY SIZE, so for example you could say you want a bookcase under 80cm wide, and you will be shown all the bookcases that fit.
