Seriously though there were some positive aspects of British colonialism. Judicial and administrative systems were established based on those of the mother country. Leaders of these newly independent nations attended Oxford and Cambridge . For whatever it was worth these former colonies were not completely ditched as were the Spanish and Portuguese territories in south America and much of the troubles and lack of democratic institutions in the central and south American countries today are a legacy of Spanish and Portuguese colonial policies. The British withdrew from their colonies peacefully unlike the Spanish, French and Belgians who had to be forcefully removed

Some of the former British colonies over time abandoned the institutions the British had left them and sank into chaos and corruption. Uganda is one former colony that comes to mind. That said, they had no one to blame but themselves.

Zimbawbe (formerly Rhodesia) is a special case. It was a prosperous enough country for whites under Iain Smith's rule but oppressive in it's segregationist policy towards black Rhodesians. Sanctions imposed by the government in London eventually brought about the demise of the Smith regime and the newly enfranchised black Rhodesians celebrated their independence by renaming it Zimbabwe. White farms were seized and taken over, white Rhodesians left by the trainload and those farms and businesses fell into decay and neglect and the country became a complete basket case

Is that like Monty Pythons "poke them with pointed sticks?" From the skit, "How to defend yourself against some one attacking you with a bunch of bananas?"

I think Yosy Sam is taking the p*ss.

Beefeaters are good in a glass with Ice and a twist of lemon and a little humour.

Hey OMO.

Cheers, Steve.
I knew a girl once who was very partial to a glass of Beefeaters. Two glasses of that and nothing in trousers for fifty miles around was safe.

Perhaps we should all be focusing on the future (what's left of it) and not dwell and blame, nor even seek repatriation for deeds done by our forebears that lived in those times, go back 40,000 years.
Maybe in 100 years our historians and do gooders, citizens will look back at all the Cr*p happening now and not blame nor seek restitution for idealogical or at times personal reasons and have learned to never make the same mistakes again.

OMO.

Cheers, Steve.

Xenophobia... a hatred of foreigners . But why in particular the Queen? In the UK she is a figure of unity among the people irrespective of their politics. We have no longer any sense of unity here in the States. The hatred and divisions just seem to grow worse every day.

What's your reason for hating the Queen?
For months, the queens subjects have been insulting the previous U.S. President, other U.S. leaders and The U.S. politics in the Trump post on here so I'm just sharing the love and the facts. As usual, the subjects can dish it out but they can't take it.😀

Well you have to realize that Donald Trump was/is not generally a popular figure in Europe, never mind the UK. Even here in the States he is disliked by many. Insults are exchanged frequently between his supporters and those who favor Biden but freedom of speech and opinion is something that we have a right to under the First Amendment

The funny thing is that you actually think we care if you insult the queen or anybody else in the royal family.
We can insult them way better than you can. :D :D :D

We don't get butt pains like you do when someone tells the truth about your feckless blowhard ex-leader.
