I need to vacate my home in the US several months before moving to Oz on a permanent basis. (I am renovating it to be a rental for us here.) I'd like to avoid the costly storage in the US in the meantime, so we are thinking of shipping the belongings to my partner who lives in our home in OZ and is an Aussie native/resident. We will apply for a permanent visa for me later, but I'm going back and forth to Oz so often at the moment, with most of my time being spent in the US still, that the visitor visa is more than sufficient.

Does it seem correct that we can ship the belongings from our place here to our place there without me having a resident visa in Oz and without him having a resident visa in the US? If so, do you have any idea what documentation he/I might need tfor the shipping companies/customs?

Thanks for any help/experiences!

The shipping company usually ask for your visa details, your passport and ticket copy (atleast here in India) and if you do not have a permanent/semi permanent visa, they levy an export duty. If you can prove your partner was staying there for a while and these are personal effects, it might not be a hassle.

best is to contact a shipping/movers company and see what they have to say
