Hi everyone, first time post here, would love to hear your thoughts.

My partner and I were debating making the move to Dubai with our 4yo son (currently in private school).

I work in finance and would be moving internally with the same company. My dubai package would be : 100k AED pcm + bonus (up to 75% on a good year) but all expenses to be borne out of my end.

My career is stable despite the long hours.

Currently I earn approx £250k pa, my partner doesn’t work, we live in suburbs of London and have a comfortable life.

We’re not extravagant with our lifestyle, we do eat out once or twice a week, but rest of time is spent at home and would say our biggest expenses are probably the holidays we take (many of which have taken place in dubai).

Our expectation is to rent a villa in a good community close to a school like DESS, lease 1-2 cars, weekends going to various beach clubs/hotel day passes etc…

I guess my question is, would the quality of life vastly improve if we moved to dubai? and more importantly would we save enough? (so as to pay off the mortgage back home quicker, plan for future etc etc..). or would one come at the cost of the other?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
This seems like a very decent package to be honest. We are also moving to Dubai next month (and currently in Herts ourselves). DM me and we can liaise ideas together and how your move is coming along.

Hi all,

I have been offered a 3 year contract internally at the same firm. I am a 28 year old danish bachelor considering to relocate to Dubai in a few months. But I have a lot of doubt regarding the offer i have been given;

Basic salary: 210.000 AED
Housing allowance: 82.250 AED
Car allowance:18.000 AED
Bonus: 10.000 AED

Is this a decent salary in Dubai or are the trying to get me to cheap? Can I live a decent life meanwhile saving quite a lot ?

In my current position I make around 42.000 dkk (22.000 AED) a month and company pays 10 % in pension. I am traveling 150 days yearly get around 4.200 AED in compensation and all expenses paid. The income tax in Denmark is about 39 % and progressing when earning more.
Also, it need to be mentioned that I see the opportunity as something that could look good on my CV and a great experience. But would like to make a good saving to take home, meanwhile being able to live my life.

Health insurance and 25 paid vacation days paid by the company. One return flight per year also included

Hope someone can share their point of view and thoughts on this. Thanks

Whether a salary is decent means different things to different people, also depends what the role actually is and what your expectations on lifestyle are.

If you can give some insight into your life now it would be easier to compare. What sort of accommodation do you have now, what car do you expect to drive, expectations on eating and socialising etc etc

26k PM is life changing for some people and very low for others. Also factor in setup costs and any tax liabilities you may still have in your home country.

Also to add that 3 year contract here doesn’t really mean a great deal you can be terminated with very little notice and compensation.

It´s a senior process engineering role - I will be working 40 hours a week. Currently live in a cheap "old" 64 square meter apartment in Denmark, drive a cheap car and generally saving a lot. Eating on resturant everyday when travelling (Company paid), but if i was not travelling I would properly only do it like 5 times a month. I don´t have any tax liabilities in Denmark.

My plan was to buy a cheap car and find an apartment around 6000 AED maximum a month. If possible ?

That’s possible and you should be able to get an apartment / Studio within budget. There is a fair amount to consider with setup costs so don’t overlook this.

I can’t comment specifically about whether this is the right salary for your role but others may be able to comment.

I would certainly advise speaking to a tax professional to make 100% sure you will have no Danish tax liability on income from Dubai.

hi all,

just looking for some advice, i been head hunted for a role in Dubai - with a budget of 55k aed per month including health insurance for the family. Just doing some rough maths to make sure if this financial viable or not worth it.

I am married with two kids - going to assume wife won't work but if she does any, its a bonus. Both kids needs schooling. We don't drink nor smoke and looking for an 3br apartment circa 130-150k. Life style wise... we are happy to shop in aldi & tesco and most are clothes is from primark/tkmaxx - maybe sometimes from river island/next.

Based on the calculations below i would save 13k AED per month. Question is if i have missed a cost or if something obviously wrong below? On the plus side the firm did mention that they might fund the school fees and then i would save circa 9k extra bringing the total to 22k savings per month.

thank you.

I cant see anything major you have missed but personally I would always add 10% (or more) to any spreadsheet calculations as generally things will cost more somewhere.

Couple of observations

Have you factored setup costs and any upfront payments / deposits related to accomodation and utilities. Potentially 5% agent fee, 5% deposit. Plus whatever you negotiate with the LL as far as paying your 150k. For a popular apartment in the current climate the LL may seek 1 payment for the advertised price or increase it for multiple payments. Really depends on the property and how easily he/she can rent it. Its unusual to get 12 payments but not impossible.

Out of school activities whether school connected or not can be expensive.

Dont overlook potential tax obligations in the UK, dont assume you will be tax free as soon as you step off the plane.

Scrutinise the healthcare policy for coverage and any limits or co-pay requirements.

On a positive note your company may pay the annual ticket home.

Your car hire maybe a little low for a family car but if you do hire generally you wont pay insurance.

Lastly being blunt dont accept anything that a recruiter/headhunter tells you until you see the offer in writing.

Hi,

I've been head-hunted for a C level role by Manpower. They claim to have a Executive Level service charged at $550 USD to the candidate to get you a guaranteed interview.
Do these services exists? I was under the impression the entire process is free for the candidate and the employer pays the head hunter.

The potential offer is
Salary 66k AED per month
Child allowance of 12k AED per month per child
Car allowance 1500 AED per month

What are other people's experiences?

Thanks in advance.

Id be very wary of any kind of recruitment fees ….. very often in the UAE they are scams … I’m not saying this is …. But I’ve never heard of such fees myself.

Sounds dodgy... fees are normally earnt by a recruiter via the employer, once they have landed a person. If someone is asking you for money up front... It's normally a scam.
