hi
this is my first time posting on this site so bear with me.
i was in australia for a year 07-08 and had no difficulty in finding rope work in Sydney(after it stopped raining it was the wettest summer in 65 years).
one question, can you clean windows?if the answer is yes you are fine and should just google rope access in brisbane and have no trouble finding work.if you cant clean windows then i suggest you start to learn as that was 99 percent of the work out there.
be prepared to work with people without any tickets (ok as long as you dont need rescuing yourself) and i was also asked to abseil alone(which i refused).
id also buy all my own kit as the 'she'll be right!' approach to falling to your death is quite widespread.an example was a newly fitted eyebolt tested by putting a ft long screwdriver and giving it a tug instead of pull testing haha i backed up off the mezzanine instead thanks anyhow!
hope fully things have tightened up since i was there as there was a nasty accident or two at the time.irata investigated a young lad who got off on a balcony halfway down a building as his ropes didnt reach the floor and then got on the ropes before his 'mate' had re-attached his ropes and fell 10 stories smashing himself to pieces.
also no certificates of conformity are issued from australian shops so if theres a chance of your kit coming home again, then id get it all sorted here before you go.
im not tryng to put you off or anything im just telling you the truth,i think australia is ****ing amazing and hope to end up there myself
i didnt work offshore and am looking to get into it myself.im level 2 hoping to do my level 3 at the end of the summer.
if you have residency the mines may also be a good option for you to look into.
i hope that helps and if you have any advice into getting offshore work id would be glad to hear it.
good luck and im deeply envious, looking out the window at the welsh weather isnt making me feel any better haha
