Hi, my Japanese wife arrived here on a fiance visa in October, we married in November and we secured her spouse visa in March.
We've just had the happy news that she's pregnant! My wife would like to be with her mother for the birth and the months afterwards and it seems unlikely that she could come to the UK so my wife would like to return to Japan for a few months.
So what we'd like to know is, is this possible under her visa? Are there any time constraints as to how long she can spend abroad?

Many thanks again.

Yes, but think of the implication for your dual-national child. He/she will become British citizen by descent (born outside UK of British parent otherwise than by descent) and they won't automatically be able to hand down British citizenship to a child born outside UK. And if you are British by descent, the child won't be British at all (you may be able to register as British depending on circumstances).
Otherwise she can stay abroad up to half the time on her visa.
