retrning to uk need LHD car cover

In April we will return to UK permanently from France and in order to transport some of our last personal possessions (after removalists have gone), ideally, we would like to drive back in our LHD french registered car.
However, our French insurers won't cover us because we will no longer be French residents, UK insurers say they won't cover an unregistered UK car and direct line companies have a minimum 12 months cover.
We will be staying with family until we find a permanent address and hope to buy a RHD once our situation is more settled. We don't want to keep our LHD permanently or UK re-register it.
Has anyone advice how we go about this or where we can find UK car cover for a few weeks or say 3 months.
We would be grateful for advice or someone's experience of what can't be an uncommon problem. Merci.

Easiest way is to extend your French insurance long enough for your initial UK stay before returnuing to France to sell it (LHD cars get very low price here). Don't tell your insurers you are permanently leaving France but just going to UK for a few months. Retain your French address long enough for this purpose, or re-register your car with the address of a friend in France (can be involved if it's in a different préfecture). Every car insurance policy bought in EU is valid throughout EU, but often third party cover only.
Thanks for your suggestions JOPPA but problem solved. Today I phoned our insurers, asked for our usual contact and was told she had left their employment. The other employee I spoke with then said it would be no problem getting car cover for a short period in the UK until we could arrange British insurance. Seems we were initially advised wrongly!
