Hello,

I am an American, working in the US for a US company. My employer has offices in the UK, and I am considering a short-term (one-year) placement with my company in the UK. What visa requirements might be associated with such an arrangement? I am familiar with Tier 2 (General) work visa and the new Skilled Worker visa. Do these apply in my situation? Would I need a certificate of sponsorship, even though this is effectively a temporary within-company move?

Thanks!

You need a Tier 2 intra company visa

Just agreeing with Crawford and adding that your employer should know this. It’s an inter-company transfer. Whatever the length of your assignment, you need a COS and a visa in order to work in the UK.
