Hi Guys,

Can someone please let me know if both me and my husband can request our passports back from the HO after he will receive his CoA so that he can start applying for his NINO? With the CoA with work and NINO will he be able to start looking for a job or he needs to wait until he will receive his residence card for EEA2 and after to do it?
Also, i am a bit confused: in case we will request our passports back does this mean that the application can be rejected by the HO or they will continue considering all the documents and still go on with processing our applications?

Many thanks for your help :)

For an EEA residence card application, requesting a return of your passport does not forfeit your application (unless you specifically instruct them that you are withdrawing your application)

Form to request the return of your passports:

https://eforms.homeoffice.gov.uk/outreach/Return_of_Documents.ofml

Too late now, but just as a note, you can use the EU passport return service to submit an application without turning in your original passport:

Yes, he can apply for a NINo with his CoA for the EEA residence card and his passport. A NINo is not required to look for a job (or even to be hired) but an employer will probably want to know that he's at least applied for a NINo.

Whilst a CoA does allow the right to work at least temporarily, a particularly prudent employer may insist on seeing the actual 5-year residence card. So there's no reason he can't look for work now, he may just find some variance in employer policies.
