Hi.
We are staying in France at the moment, on a long stay visitors visa (renewed yearly)
The lower section of our property is laid out as a garage area and then a kitchen/lounge and a bedroom with shower room.
Would it be possible for us to rent out the lower part of the house in the summer without causing any problems for our visa renewal or any other problems?
Thanks in advance for any advice

I believe that you had to sign to say that you would not undertake work of any kind when you were granted the visa?
and if you were allowed to do this would it be on a gite type basis,(in which case you would have to register it with the commune collect any taxe de sejour etc and submit the income on your french tax return ) or on a longer term basis in which case you would need to be aware of all the regulations about long term rentals and any eviction process.
If you are getting a pension then at the moment you are getting "free" healthcare but if you have any extra income you may find that you will need to pay health contributions french pension contributions etc.And how much income would you make? Would it be worth the hassle frankly.

You may want to speak to your local mairie about this. AirBnB rentals are frowned upon, if not banned outright, in some areas in France - and there are plenty of local regulations regarding rental property you should probably familiarize yourselves with.

This site might get you started:

I looked up "location de meublés" on the govt website service-public.fr
This gives you the legal angle on the activity (auto translation into English):
I had to skip back to the French text to understand what "tourist furniture" meant
- it's a furnished holiday rental -
Of course I have no idea if your visa status allows you to rent ...
