I am an Aussie citizen and my wife is English, we are moving back to Australia after 20 years of abscence.

Since I will be ariving before my container with all our stuff, what are our chances of renting a 5 bdroom house without jobs.

Also does anyone know how much self-storage costs in the canterbury-bankstown area in Sydney.

Also how long does it take to get credit in Australia, and does anyone know of a website with the criteria needed for credit when we get there.

Any help will be apreciated..
Cheers
Paul.

Hi Paul:

Your main challenge will be finding a 5 BR house to actually rent. Sydney rental vacancy has been low (< 3%) in many areas for years now.

Check out domain.com.au and realestate.com.au to get an idea of what's out there.

Self-storage costs vary depending on the size of room you get and for how long. Try looking at this site to get an idea (www.kenards.com.au).

You could try to get credit once you have some money in an AU bank account (probably easiest to get it from the same bank you have the account with). Once you have your first credit card your next one is easier.

As an AU citizen you might already have a credit file so it's probably easier for you to get it.

Please read the sticky posts at the top of the page as they have many links where you can find out about things nearly everyone has to deal with.

Sorry I wasnt actually asking about availability but about the application for one..I heard that you apply for the house and according to ur records(i.e. bank statement, payslips, job contract etc) they accept you as tennants.

How can I get around that one, with straight-forward honesty or can I pay a bigger bond maybe?

Hi,

We're also moving next year, with family etc...
What we'll do and seems to have worked with other people here in the Forum, is to explain on the application we don't have all those things yet, because we just landed and offer 3 months rend upfront.

Also because on arrival (without jobs to go to) we can see houses during the day, we'll try to secure a house and apply before the actual date people are supposed to visit, not to have to compete against famly with more background than us.

Also well take a file of morgage payments, and bills etc, for here for them to see we did keep a mortgage here and we're a responsible family.

Best wishes,
Buyte
