We may need to be in Spain between November and April. We need to find a farm or suitable property for our family that we could rent to also accommodate horses. The two areas we may have to relocate to are either Andalusia or country side surrounding Barcelona.
If anyone could offer any advice or ideas we would welcome some help.
Many thanks.

You should probably mention how many horses you need to accommodate.

Do the horses need to be on the same farm as where you live? or could you live a few KMs from the horses?

Thank you for your responses.

Apologies for sounding vague. To be honest the exact location is not so important. It is more important to find a property where we can have stables also for horses. They are competition dressage horses and need to have good safe facilities.

Six boxes minimum and turnout. Ideally extra land with shelter as we also have broodmares and youngstock, so if we could accomodate these it would be easier than keeping them in France with someone. I would always prefer them with me.(these could be a few mile away so long as we could visit twice daily minimum.

A family home with stables or a farm type enviroment if at all posible.

We do not know Spain geography very well but we have researched the horse requirements.

Rural but close to good road links and civilisation if possible.

May sound like we are wanting 'ideal' but we are hoping to find something to suit us.
Many thanks.

I think something as specialised as this should be done through a letting agent. They would "know" of these kinds of properties and would be able to advise you. So google "properties to let in........" and see what comes up. Then try phoning a few in the right areas and have a chat cos they will know their areas and whats about even if they dont have quite what you want on their books

We stable our horse and donkey here in Huescar, Granada. They used to live in a cave complex now they're on the premises of a top Spanish horseman.

He does have a number of stables so I can check out what's available.....how many horses in total would you be bringing?

You could try El Boyal for the horses near Jerez de la Frontera (and the Royal Equestrian School). This is a high level equestrian facility with accommodation on site if you wanted to be that close to the horses. German run so if you don't speak Spanish that won't be a problem.

They keep high level dressage horses including some at Grand Prix level. A couple members of the Spanish national dressage team keep and/or teach there.

Hacienda El Boyal - Landhotel Andalusien

If you didn't want to be on site there would be independent accommodation nearby. The trouble is this type of property tends to be advertised word of mouth amongst the Spanish who are "in the business". My OH is a competition dressage rider.....I could ask him who he knows that has a property available, but first I would need to know that you would definitely be coming to this area.

Otherwise perhaps you could get your hands on a copy of El Equestre magazine and look in the classified section.

Happygolucky - I was wondering, will you be taking part in any competitions whilst you are over here? I notice in your original post you said that you might "need" to be in Spain during these months and wondered if that was competition related??

We may well bump into each other if that is the case as I often travel around Spain (and further afield) to attend the dressage comps.

May have a contact who has several houses with 12 stables and paddock. They are based in Competa which is 15 minutes inland from Torrox. Torrox is 40 minutes east of Malaga. Let me know if this may be suitable. Regards,

Robert
