Bonjour!
I have researched the Forum, but can not find information for my situation. I have a long-term visitor visa that will expire on Jan 31, 2014. I would like to renew for another year / obtain my first CdS.
However, I had to return to the USA last month due to my Mom's failing health and predict that I will be here for another 2-3 months. Is it possible to renew at a French consulate in the US? Or will I have to re-apply for another Visa?
Thank you for your advice!

To renew your titre de séjour, you need to report to the préfecture in the departement where you are currently residing in France. You can check the website for the préfecture to see if maybe there is a mail-in option for renewing your card - as long as you are still maintaining your residence in France (i.e. still have a flat or other home in the departement).

It may also depend on what sort of visa/carte de séjour you are on. If you're married to a French citizen and on a spouse visa it could be much easier than if you're on a visitor visa.
Cheers,
Bev
