Hi, I'm living in Dijon France and in the process of trying to renew my carte de sejour. I went to the prefecture in February with my file for renewal, which they accepted, (after hours in the waiting room and several days of needing to come back early enough to get a ticket for the wait) and they gave me a "recepisse," which I thought they explained to me was a document stand-in until they would issue the actual stamp for my passport. I was expecting to hear from them in April via the post, (I think, everything was explained to me in French in a busy office and I'm not perfect with the language) to summon me back for the actual stamp. ..It's May 7th, and still no word, so I'm getting worried. The recepisse expired in April so I have this uneasy feeling i'm here without appropriate documentation.

Should I keep waiting to be called back? It's very difficult to get in there so I don't want to try and go unless I need to.

Thank you for any advice and help!

If you're renewing your carte de séjour, you'll be getting an actual card and not just a stamp in the passport. You should probably go in to the prefecture and ask to renew your recepissé - very often when you do that, they "just happen" to have gotten your card that very day or a day or two earlier. (They'll never admit they "forgot" to notify you.)
Cheers,
Bev
