HI All,

It's almost 10 years since I received my ILR.
Now it's time to renew my BRP card.

I have a BRP card stating that I have ILR. This was issued in Aug 2012.
This card expires in Aug 2022.

I am deciding when is the best time to renew my BRP. I have the following questions:
1) Is there a maximum / minimum number of months before expiry that I can renew my BRP? i.e. can I renew my BRP now?

2) I understand the process could take up to 6 months. I will need to leave the country for a family situation.
o Can I start the process and still leave the country and come back before my BRP expires in Aug?
o Is there an express service ?

3) In terms of documents to be submitted:
o Evidence to prove your continuous residency in the UK since becoming a permanent resident - can I use my graduation certificate from the University to indicated I have been in Uni for a period of time?
o Original document showing grant of settlement, such as a vignette, passport, or RON 60 letter - I don’t have this but I have a letter saying that they will send the BRP card – this was in 2012 when I applied for ILR.

Thanks very much for all your support.
Regards,
K

Hi All,

I have another question please.
It is only on my BRP card that says I have ILR status. What is my status once the BRP card expires?
Is the status still valid on an expired card?

In theory, if I do not leave the UK, would I need to renew my BRP card?

I am trying to work out the best time to renew my BRP Card.

Thanks & Regards,
K

Your ILR status doesn't expire, even if the document does
If you don't leave the UK, you don't really have much use for a BRP (unless your employer needs proof of your ILR). All BRPs are being phased out by the end of 2024 anyway, as UKVI are moving to entirely digital status

Hi,

I am applying for an ILR based on 10 years continuous residency soon and I have spent more than 540 days outside the UK in 10 years, and more than 6 months at one point. However, I have compassionate reasons.

1. Does Covid-19 qualify as a reason?
2. How about mental health problems, i.e. I had to leave the UK, as here I was alone and had no family supported by the appropriate documentation?
3. Death of a loved one?
4. Study abroad period?
5. Under age period?

If someone has been granted the ILR on the basis of 10 years continuous residency and the Home Office has exercised discretion, please would you be kind enough to share your experience with me and shed some light on what counts as a compassionate reason?

Hi Kiera
How did your renewal go?
I am in the same situation as you going to renew my ILR after 10 years. Can you let me know what documentsyou provided for the 'Original document showing grant of settlement, such as a vignette, passport, or RON 60 letter' I am not sure what this is, like you Ihave the letter statingmy BRP was on the way.

Any help you can provide would be great.

I have thje same question regarding a vignette, passport, or RON 60 letter
1) I am uploaded the letter that came with BRP when I was granted BRP for vignette, passport or RON 60 letter
2) Also for proof of residency for each yr since ilr grant i am uploading a month bill from each yr for water or electricity..

Also I need to travel just at the cusp of six month , did it take longer or did you extended brp came before 6 months.
Also did you take the documentation verification service from ukvcas website along with upload fees

Hoping for reply
