Hi,
Have just found this website and have found loads of useful information, but would love to hear some about our situation.

My husband and I are looking at moving over to cyprus in the next couple of years, we have a cleaning business here in the uk and would either like to start another cleaning business in cyprus or maybe buy a business. My husband has 30 years experience of carpet and holstery cleaning and hard floor restoration.

We should be able to take some money for living out of our Uk business, but would have to earn the majority of our income in cyprus.

We would be looking at renting as do not own a home in the Uk.

We would take enough money over to see us through 6 months of everyday living, do you think this would be enough ??

If unable to start a business what do you think our chances of finding work, I am 30 and my husband is 51 and would like to stay in the cleaning business.

Any info would be great :) Many thanks in advance

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

If you are able to keep you Uk business running to supplement your income in Cyprus you will be in a better position than many who come to live here.
However you will still need to find work of some kind and that is not easy. As for starting a cleaning business here, there are already so many expats doing cleaning and propert managment (most of them illegally) that it is not an easy field to get into.
What sort of hard floors does your husband restore?

Hello,

Many thanks for your reply. My husband can restore marble, terrazzo, all types of wood, thermo plastic tiles, limestone, granite, pretty much can clean any flooring :) Has been in the industry many years and would like to stay in this field.

In that case that might be the niche he needs to look at as most floors here are marble, tiles, terrazzo etc.
Forget everyday cleaning as there are so many doing and specialise in restoring floors.

Hard floor restoration is only one of the specialist fields that we operate in the UK. Do you think it is realistic to expect that we could offer this service as a main stay of the business whilst diversifying into all the usual fields of cleaning.

Presently here in the uk we do a substantial amount of complete property cleaning and garden maintenance on behalf of lettings agents and property mangement companies. Because of this experience we feel it wouldnt be that difficult to break into in Cyprus, even as a small percentage of our work load.

Even if we stuggled to start a new business do you feel we could gain employment with onother cleaning or property mangement company due to our experience ?

I certainoly think that specialising in restoring old hard floors is something that could catch on. If you get a good reputation for that I am sure that other work would come and also you could offer the floor restoration service to other established cleaning/managment companies.

That is what this forum is all about. To help each other.
We always advise people to do their homework and make sure that a move is the right thing for them. However as you intend to keep your business in the UK going you will be in the enviable position of having something to return to if things don't work out as hoped here.
If you need any advice or have any questions feel free to ask and I am sure someone will answer you.

Kind regards
Veronica
