Do you mean registering it in your name? Or getting a number plate for the first time?

If the second option, is it new unregistered in Spain? Or is it used in another country and to be imported into Spain?

The easiest way is to use a gestor.

Go with the person who is selling it to you and they will do the contract of sale and all the other paperwork.

If you don't want to pay a gestor, you will need to go to your nearest DGT office with the signed contract of sale, copy of the DNI of the seller, your NIE and proof of address (if you want to register it at an address which is not the one you have on your certificate of residence) plus the vehicle documents.
You will also need to pay the transfer tax and take the justification to the DGT.

Be aware that you will not get the "permiso de circulación" which you need to use the vehicle if it does not have a valid ITV certificate. Also, if there is any back dated unpaid road tax, you will have to pay it before you can get it in your name.



The good news is that being a 50cc bike (yellow plate) it will cost very little.

With regards to the insurance, there have been cases where companies have refused to pay out when the new owner has tried to carry on using the previous owner's policy.... and worse, I have known cases where the seller has "sold" his remaining policy with the vehicle, then, unknown to the buyer, cancelled the policy to get a rebate, leaving the new owner with worthless documents and no insurance.

To do things properly you should take out your own coverage.
